Facilitator: Stuart Barrow, Promoting Independence Ltd. This foundational training, delivered by Stuart Barrow of Promoting Independence Ltd , introduces occupational therapists to the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) and its essential role in supporting home adaptations for people with disabilities. Designed for OTs new to housing or looking to strengthen their understanding of the DFG process, this session covers: What the DFG is and why it's a crucial tool for supporting independence at home Who is eligible and what kinds of adaptations are covered The OT’s role in the DFG process—from assessment to recommendation Working effectively with local authorities and housing teams Key legislation and guidance underpinning the grant Common challenges and how to overcome them Through practical examples and real-life case studies, participants will leave with greater confidence in their ability to navigate the DFG system and advocate for timely, effective adaptations. Forest School sessions led by Forest School Leader Claire Newland from Wild Thymes. Sessions are relaxed and follow the Forest School ethos of child-led play in a nurturing and supportive environment through various open ended activities promoting independence and self confidence. For children aged 2-5 years old and their parent who will be responsible for their own child at all times. Babes in arms are free. Activities include arts & crafts, music, exploring, bushcraft, games and free play but will vary depending on the Leader's assessment of the groups' capabilities, needs and interests. There are no toilets on site but facilities can be found opposite the entry to the woodland in the Cwm Talwg Pub. Meet at the Forest School area - see map below. This event is an opportunity for Vale community members to Share personal views and experiences Ask questions or raise concerns with Kanishka Hear from neighbours and community members Help inform how their MP approaches this historic issue in Parliament This is not a debate or rally, but a space for respectful, thoughtful conversation. Our goal is to ensure all voices are heard in a structured and inclusive setting. Please register in advance to help us plan the event and ensure venue capacity. Join us for a free tour of Barry (Merthyr Dyfan) Burial Ground. Our tours are free to the public, but if you would like to support us then please consider donating to our charity The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF). https://foundation.cwgc.org/donate/ MEETING POINT is inside the main gate by the Royal British Legion Memorial. Merthyr Dyfan has over one hundred and ten casualties from both World Wars. Both Summer tours will be completely different from War Graves Week and from each other. We will visit private memorials and Commonwealth War Graves headstones of casualties from all three of the armed services and the Merchant Navy from both World Wars. There are casualties from a couple of European Countries and from Canada. Plenty of on-street parking on Cemetery Approach and surrounding streets; on-site facilities including toilets with disability access; good pathways but ground is undulating in places. Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear. The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) aims to actively engage all communities with the work of the CWGC by telling the inspiring stories through education and outreach projects.
