Holi Festival | Amer
Mar 14, 2025 (UTC+5)ENDED
Amer
The festival of Holi comes from a legend: a king became immortal and became arrogant. He only allowed people to believe in him and not Vishnu. The prince openly opposed his father. The king plotted to kill the prince and ordered his sister, the witch Holika, to burn the prince to death. Holika put on a fireproof cloak and jumped into the sea of fire with the prince. Unexpectedly, the prince was safe and sound, but Holika was buried in the sea of fire. People thanked Vishnu for his blessing and sprinkled seven colors of water on the prince to celebrate. Later, it evolved into sprinkling colored powder on each other and throwing water balls every year to celebrate the arrival of spring.
On the night before Holi, people would light a flame and throw Holika statues made of grass and paper into the fire. On the morning of the day, men, women, young and old would all go to the streets and smear colored powder on each other's foreheads to show their blessings, but more people would just grab the powder and throw it at each other, so that the colored powder was suspended in the air, and shout together: "Happy Holi!" What is special is that on this festival, everyone forgets class differences and celebrates together regardless of race, thereby promoting messages of freedom, love and peace.
