Guided by this well-regarded eco friendly artist, you will create a unique pair of earrings using the following materials: reclaimed pre-cut metaldiscarded Tupperware and/or single use plasticsterling silver findingsacrylic paintlow-temp clear enamel.You will paint and decorate pre-cut and primed pieces of reclaimed aluminium using acrylic paint and paint pens. Once dry, you will enamel your pieces using low-temp enamel powder and fire them in a small kiln that runs on tea-light power. Using discarded Tupperware lids and other plastics, you will use scissors to cut a variety of shapes to design the rest of your earrings. The Ashley Carpenter (AC) Classic Softball Tournament is an annual coed event that aims to raise funds for a local child who is bravely battling cancer. This year, the tournament will be held on September 30th at the Bondurant Recreational Sports Complex in Bondurant, Iowa. It is a great opportunity to show your support and make a difference in the life of a child in need.
Teams are encouraged to participate and mark this important date on their calendars. The tournament promises to be an exciting day filled with fun activities and entertainment. Silent Auction, Raffle items, live music, and more will be available for everyone to enjoy.
To ensure fair play, each team must have a minimum of 8 players on their roster, with a maximum of 12 players allowed. It is mandatory for each participant to complete the player registration online in order to take part in the tournament. Additionally, a minimum of 4 girls must be registered as part of each team.
When it comes to batting and fielding, specific rules apply. Roster batting is encouraged, but if a team only has 10 players, substitutes will need to stay in the same lineup spot. For fielding, if there are only 4 girls, 2 must play the infield and 2 must play the outfield. Equipment regulations state that bats must have the USSSA, ASA, or NSA approval, and should not exceed 31 oz or 34 inches in length. Metal cleats are not allowed.
Don't forget to bring your lawn chairs, tents, blankets, and coolers. This is a chance to come together as a community and support a worthy cause. Let's make a difference in the life of a local child battling cancer at the Ashley Carpenter (AC) Classic Softball Tournament.

This is an intimate nature sketchbook workshop, where we’ll explore the beauty of the natural world through drawing and watercolour. Topics will include colour mixing, brushwork, simplifying big forms of the landscape and delving into tiny details of botanical sketches. It offers you the chance to refine their artistic skills, from mixing colours on paper, using a mixture of brush and watercolour pencil, to using a viewfinder to frame compositions. You will gain an understanding of how sketchbooks are source material for larger finished artworks. You will also gain confidence in your artistic process, moving through the stages of inspiration, making sketches, reflecting on your work and celebrating your achievements as a group. By the end of the session you will leave with a personalised sketchbook filled with your observations and reflections from the day. About the facilitator - Jane has a deep, lifelong love of nature and loves spending time there capturing the effects of light on the landscape. She seeks to imbue her work with the magic of special moments and places. For nearly 25 years Jane has worked with people of all ages, teaching art in schools, preschools, university and in the community. In this workshop you will be introduced to the textile art of wet wool felting, its history and applications. You will create 3D vessels with merino wool rovings. These vessels will be reminiscent of birds nests that are sculptural and textural. The skills taught will set you up to continue your felting journey at home. About the facilitator - Anne Griffiths is an artist and educator working in textiles and watercolours. Her work is reflective of nature and its cyclic processes. Anne creates felted vessels, nests and cocoons using wool felting and adding found objects that connect with the environment. Things you need to know suitable participants with some experience in textile arts but not essential, 18 years and older.We provide the basic materials but please bring along a towel, bubble wrap (approximately 50 to 60cm square), found objects such as feathers, dried leaves, small bones or twigs that can be added to your vessel, needle and thread (any colour) for attaching feathers. She will inspire and guide participants through a range of printmaking methods and techniques. By the end of each workshop kids will have fallen in love with this amazing art form. No prior experience needed. In this Relief Printing with a Press workshop your kids will be guided through the design, making and printing of relief blocks by hand and in a press. An exciting way to use simple recycled and craft materials to make all different kinds of relief prints. After each session kids will take home a variety of cards and prints, as well has having the skills to keep on printing and stamping at home. Great fun and easy to do for beginners. Photowalk with artist Jane Marr. Creative photographer Jane Marr aka Mama Jane will take you on a walk of discovery and wellbeing around the Tea Tree Gully heritage precinct and Anstey Hill Recreation Park. Photowalking is a practice in creativity, mindfulness and gratitude - looking at local places and faces through fresh eyes - discovering the extraordinary in the ordinary. The session will introduce some simple photographic principles and the benefits of walking for emotional, physical and mental wellbeing. Participants will finish the walk with a collection of photographs, which could be printed and framed, made into photo-cards and/or you may want create an artwork for next year’s Stitch & Yarn Community Exhibition. About the artist - facilitator Jane Marr aka Mama Jane has been an amateur creative photographer for over 40 years. She has participated in numerous exhibitions including Port Adelaide Artists Forum, SouthWest Contemporary, Port Festival and SALA, as well as commissions and publications. Join us for a 2-part workshop that will introduce you to a range of hand-building and surface carving techniques in clay This two-part workshop occurs from 1:30-5pm, on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 October On this weekend you will be introduced to a range of hand-building and surface carving techniques in clay. Learn pinching, coiling and slab construction methods before being guided through a range of surface carving techniques to apply texture and decorative elements to your pieces. In this engaging and supportive setting, you will: Learn the fundamentals of decorative carving techniques in clay.Explore various patterns and designs to create unique, personalized pieces.Make 2-3 of your own functional ceramic pieces such as cups, candle holders, vases or serving platters.Experience the therapeutic benefits of working with clay, enhancing mindfulness and reducing stress.Connect with fellow participants, fostering a sense of community and shared creativity.After the second session Lauren will take your your pieces and fire them in her kiln. After that we will contact you to collect them from the gallery where you will take home your own functional ceramic pieces such as cups, candle holders, vases or serving platters. About the artist facilitator Lauren Downton recently completed her Honours degree in Contemporary Art at UniSA, with a focus in ceramics. She works as a ceramic artist, exhibiting widely across SA as well as interstate. Lauren’s ceramic sculptures have won multiple awards and her work has been featured in publications such as The Journal of Australian Ceramics and Art Edit Magazine. Be introduced to landscape painting techniques. Step by step artist and educator Katie Sandison will guide you through the exploration of form and colour, so you can achieve your own landscape study using acrylic paints on canvas. Also, during the session Katie will also introduce you to the remarkable landscape studies created by early to mid-20th Century Australian painters. What you need to know Suitable for beginners to advanced, 16 years and over.We provide all the materials and equipment.Wear suitable art workshop clothing.We provide tea and coffee. Her birds and botanical work is featured in galleries throughout South Australia and interstate. Katie has taught visual art in schools and privately for nearly 30 years. Since graduating from art school she has participated in 50 exhibitions and has curated numerous exhibitions, the most recent being Sense of Place at the Adelaide airport. Botanical Drawing on Clay - Sgraffito Workshop with Lauren Downton | Gallery 1855

This two-part workshop occurs from 1:30-5pm, on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December. On that weekend you will learn how to make your own serving plate and vase, using slab and coiling construction techniques. Once your pieces are made, we’ll apply a coloured slip glaze to the surface of your pieces and spend some time planning your designs. Finally, you’ll dive into the sgraffito technique to create your own botanical-inspired design, by etching into the outer coloured surface to reveal the underlying clay body. This workshop will include hands-on demonstrations and exercises for you to practice forming and decorating your pieces. In this engaging and supportive setting, you will: Learn slab and coiling construction techniques in clay.Use sgraffito techniques to explore various patterns and botanical designs to create your own unique, personalized pieces.Make your own botanical sgraffito serving plate and small vase.Connect with fellow participants, fostering a sense of community and shared creativity.After the second session Lauren will take your your pieces and fire them in her kiln. After that we will contact you to collect them from the gallery where you will take home your own botanical sgraffito serving plate and vase. About the artist facilitator Lauren Downton recently completed her Honours degree in Contemporary Art at UniSA, with a focus in ceramics. She works as a ceramic artist, exhibiting widely across SA as well as interstate. Lauren’s ceramic sculptures have won multiple awards and her work has been featured in publications such as The Journal of Australian Ceramics and Art Edit Magazine. Take some creative time out and join Saskia at Gallery 1855 where you will make a unique keepsake. Creating with clay is so relaxing and enjoyable. If you are a parent with a baby you are encouraged to come along. Bring baby with you and settle into our warm and cozy baby-friendly studio, surrounded by artwork and blossoming trees outside. After the workshop Saskia will take your ceramic creations to a local kiln to fire them. She will return them to the Gallery for you to collect at a later date. About Saskia the facilitator Saskia is a professional and registered midwife who also has a creative practice as a ceramic artist. She lives locally and has been supporting new parents with their parenting journey for many years. Your kids will be introduced to the world of printmaking by this amazing print artist. She will inspire and guide participants through a range of printmaking methods and techniques. By the end of the workshop kids will have fallen in love with this amazing art form. No prior experience needed. In this Repeat Pattern Stamping workshop your kids will be guided through the design, carving and printing of beautiful repeat patterns by hand. After each session your kids will take home a variety of cards and prints, as well as having the skills to keep on printing and stamping at home. Great fun and easy to do for beginners. We will provide all the materials.Bring along a drink and snack.Wear closed shoes and clothes suitable for printmaking.Simone is also offering a Relief Printing with a real press workshop in the afternoon on the same day.
