This free EF Seminar-Workshop Series brought to you through the collaborative efforts of the Learning Disabilities Association of PEI (LDAPEI), the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), and ADHD PEI, is made possible by a grant awarded by the PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being. Designed for parents, educators, and adults who would like to learn about and develop their executive functioning skills, this seminar-workshop series will present the brain science behind these skills as well as tools, tips, and techniques to develop and practice these 11 executive functioning skills. Each of the following sessions is outlined below. (*Each session must be registered for individually.) Planning (October 16, 2025) - Do you have what it takes to create a plan that achieves goals? Session 2 will focus on practical strategies and helpful tools to help you create executable plans for any project size. Time Management (January 15, 2026) - Have you ever missed an appointment or run out of time for something? Session 3 will provide you with strategies and tools to help you manage your time better. Task Initiation (April 23, 2026) - Do you put off doing things a lot? Session 4 focuses on dealing with procrastination and developing habits that make it easier to initiate tasks. Organization (September 17, 2026) - Not everyone can find what they need when they need it. If you need to enhance your organizational skills, Session 5 gives you strategies and tools to help you organize better. Problem-Solving (January 14, 2027 ) - Most people would rather not have to deal with problems, but we can't always avoid them. Enhance problem-solving skills in Session 6 with practical strategies and tools that make problem-solving less daunting. Flexibility (April 15, 2027) - People often say change is a good thing, but it isn't always easy to adjust to new and different things. Enhancing flexibility to make it easier to accept and adjust to change will be the focus of Session 7. Working Memory (June 10, 2027) - Few people have eidetic or photographic memories. In fact, most of us can be quite forgetful. Like computers, we have working memories that can be overloaded or have small capacity; and like computers, we can enhance that working memory. Discover practical ways and tools to improve working memory in Session 8. Emotional Control (September 23, 2027) - Have you or someone close to you let your emotions get the better of you? Emotional control is a skill that can be acquired and enhanced with practical strategies and tools which will be shared in Session 9. Impulse Control (January 20, 2028) - Doing things whenever and just because someone feels like it may be a lack of impulse control. Session 10 brings you strategies that can help improve impulse control. Attentional Control (April 20, 2028) - The glut of information surrounding people from multiple accessible sources makes it more difficult to focus. To improve attentional control, Session 11 will deliver practical strategies and tools to enhance focus. Self-Monitoring (June 15, 2028) - The absence of accountability to an external monitor often leads to non-completion of tasks and loss of interest. Session 12 focuses on self-monitoring, which helps ensure continuity, consistence, and completion of tasks. Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR): A promising, neuroscience-informed trauma-processing method that supports deep healing without retraumatization—especially helpful for clients with early and extensive trauma histories. Through roleplays, clinical vignettes, videos, and guided practice, you’ll walk away with practical skills you can begin using right away. In this hands-on workshop, I will teach you how to grow King Stropharia mushrooms (also known as wine caps or garden giants) in your outdoor garden. These perennial mushrooms will produce for many years with minimal maintenance, making them perfect for gardeners of all experience levels, from novice to avid. The workshop combines explanation and demonstration, ensuring that you leave with all the knowledge needed to start your own mushroom garden. You'll also receive a step-by-step guide to take home and refer to as you begin your cultivation journey. King Stropharia mushrooms are easily recognized by their vibrant, reddish-brown to purple-burgundy caps that lighten as they mature, and their thick, white stems, which often feature a ring near the top. The flavor and texture of wine cap mushrooms are often compared to portobellos—they have a mild, earthy taste with a meaty texture, but with a slightly sweeter and nuttier profile. The cost of the workshop includes a wine cap starter spawn kit, sufficient to create a garden of 25 square feet (or 2.3 square meters).
