The Leaning Tower of Pisa is located in the Pisa Cathedral in the central Italian city of Pisa. It is an independent bell tower of the church. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a historic and legendary building. It is famous for its unique tilt angle. It is known as one of the three most amazing towers in the world, along with the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda in China and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa was built in 1173 and was presided over by Nanno Pisano. It was originally designed to be built vertically. Due to the unstable foundation and soft soil, the tower began to tilt to the southeast just one year after construction began. In 1178, the bell tower had been built to the fourth floor, and the tilt became more and more obvious, so the project was forced to stop. Half a century later, in 1231, in order to correct the tilted tower, the project began to tilt in the opposite direction. In 1278, the bell tower was built to the seventh floor. At this time, it was obvious that the tower was curved, and the top of the tower protruded 1.4 meters from the foundation. In the following centuries, architects tried various methods to correct it, but the tower continued to tilt. In 1990, the Leaning Tower of Pisa reached its maximum tilt angle, with the top of the tower protruding 5.4 meters from the foundation. Due to the large tilt angle, the Leaning Tower of Pisa was closed again, and the &quot;earth-digging method&quot; was used to adjust the center of gravity of the Leaning Tower. In 2013, the Leaning Tower of Pisa finally stopped its tilting trend. After professional measurement, the current Leaning Tower of Pisa tilts at an angle of 3.99&deg;, with the top of the tower protruding 4.5 meters from the foundation.
