Decals and Lusterware (2 days) | 1255 Wold Rd
Dec 11–Dec 12, 2023 (UTC-8)ENDED
Friday Harbor
Join ceramic artist Maria Michaelson for a two-day class on Decals and Lusterware. This unique workshop, held in the main art building on the AAC campus in Friday Harbor, will teach you how to create beautiful and one-of-a-kind surface designs on ceramics using decals and luster. Whether you're looking to make holiday gifts or simply explore your creative side, this class is perfect for you.
Decals are image transfers that can be directly applied to clay. You can use typed words, photos, and drawings to create your own decals, which will result in sepia-colored images on your mugs or bowls. Luster, on the other hand, is a glazing technique that gives ceramics a shiny gold finish. By firing the pieces at only 500 degrees, luster can transform clay into something that glistens like gold.
During the class, participants will have the opportunity to work with both decals and luster. All materials, including a white glazed mug or bowl, will be provided. However, if you're a member, you can bring your own finished and glazed work to use. Additionally, if you're unable to attend the class in person, you have the option to have your piece fired and shipped to you for an additional $30.
To make the class accessible to as many community members as possible, sliding scale tickets are available. There are three price tiers: Sustaining, Full Price, and Accessibility. Sustaining tickets help support the programming, while full price tickets cover the class's costs. If the full price ticket is a financial hardship, you're encouraged to purchase a sliding scale ticket.
Don't miss this opportunity to learn from an experienced ceramic artist and create stunning surface designs. Register early to ensure the class meets its minimums and secure your spot in this exciting workshop.
