Athena Books is thrilled to welcome bestselling author Laura Munson to celebrate the launch of her memoir, The Wild Why: Stories and Teachings to Uncover Your Wonder. Laura will be joined in conversation by fellow author and journalist Lee Woodruff. Join us for an evening of creativity and self-exploration among friends! Your ticket includes a copy of The Wild Why, wine and light dessert. About The Wild Why: “In The Wild Why, Laura Munson invites readers to answer ‘the most powerful and wonder-full question’ for themselves: ‘What can I create?’ This book is an open-hearted invitation to explore the connections between wonder and empathy, intuition and serendipity, self-compassion and creativity—and to live a bigger, braver life.” —Maggie Smith, New York Times bestselling author of You Could Make This Place Beautiful In The Wild Why, bestselling author and acclaimed writing workshop leader Laura Munson offers reassurance and guidance to everyone who has ever said, “I don’t have a voice” or “I’m not creative.” Going back to her beginning as a girl who was hurt and shamed by significant adults into believing that she asked too many questions, talked too much, laughed too loud, cried too easily, was too sensitive, and felt bad about all of it, Laura shares her journey to reclaiming her wonder—and the freedom and power that come with it. What’s more, she invites readers to join her and embark on their own wonder-filled journeys of discovery. A deeply personal memoir and richly insightful, empowering guide, The Wild Why interweaves stories, awakenings, and lessons with teachings, exercises of exploration, and calls to action for the reader to find their own wild why. At the heart of it all is wonder. What is wonder anyway? As Laura Munson explains, wonder is what even cynics feel and think when they see a rainbow: curiosity mixed with awe. And because the experience is universal, wonder drives empathy. About Laura Munson: Laura Munson is the New York Times, USA Today, and international bestselling author of the novel Willa’s Grove and the memoir This Is Not The Story You Think It Is. Founder of the acclaimed Haven Writing Retreats, she has been featured or published in Vanity Fair, Elle, Redbook, Time, Newsweek, The New York Times “Modern Love” column, The New York Times Magazine, O, The Oprah Magazine, and many others. She has appeared on Good Morning America, The Early Show, WGN, NPR, London’s This Morning, Australia’s Sunrise, and other global media outlets. She lives in Whitefish, Montana. About Lee Woodruff: As co-author of the bestselling In an Instant, Lee Woodruff garnered critical acclaim for the compelling and humorous chronicle of her family’s journey to recovery following her husband Bob’s roadside bomb injury in Iraq. Appearing together on national media since the February 2007 publication of their book, the couple founded the Bob Woodruff Foundation to assist wounded service members and their families. To date, they have raised more than $95 million to help veterans successfully reintegrate into their communities and receive care. Woodruff has been a contributing reporter for CBS This Morning and Good Morning America. Her bestselling book Perfectly Imperfect – A Life in Progress, was followed by her first novel Those We Love Most. Join us for a fascinating conversation about the world today as viewed through the eyes of one of our nation's founders. Your ticket includes a copy of A Third Term, wine and light dessert. About A Third Term: It is 2028 and a certain president wants a third term. The Constitution shouldn’t allow it but the Supreme Court has found a workaround. The electoral system has been mangled. The media is a joke. Voters can barely be troubled to vote. A Third Term is a speculative fiction by New York Times bestselling author Paul Greenberg in which a Democratic political operative snatches George Washington from his deathbed in 1799 and brings him to the present era. Riddled with pneumonia, possessing dentures fashioned from slave’s teeth, and an aristocratic sensibility tempered by war and religious faith, Washington will require considerable rehabilitation to pose a challenge to the man he only refers to as “The Tyrant.” But a wily, unorthodox campaign manager and a sexy, sympathetic personal trainer are up for the job. About Paul Greenberg: Paul Greenberg is the New York Times bestselling author of Four Fish and six other books. A Pew Fellow in Marine Conservation and a National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellow he is currently the Writer-in-Residence at the Safina Center. Paul’s writing on oceans, climate change, health, technology, and the environment appears regularly in The New York Times and many other publications. Motherhood and Memoir: A Conversation with Author Sarah Hoover | Athena Books

`Athena Books is thrilled to welcome bestselling author and art historian Sarah Hoover to Old Greenwich to discuss her new memoir, The Motherload: Episodes from the Brink of Motherhood, with fellow author and friend of the store Avery Carpenter Forrey. Join us for an important conversation about motherhood, expectations, and relationships. You won't want to miss this very special evening! Your ticket includes to the event includes wine, seltzer and light dessert. About The Motherload: A Most Anticipated Book of 2025 by Oprah Daily, Town & Country, and Brit + Co “The kid was objectively a tiny worm, even worse, a worm with my nose.” Welcome to Sarah Hoover’s candid and propulsive take on motherhood where she turns the ecstatic narrative women have been fed—one of immediate connection to your child followed by a joyful path of maternal discovery—on its head. Like most of us, Sarah Hoover grew up imagining a certain life for herself, and when she moved from Indiana to New York City to study art history, the life she’d imagined began falling into place. She got her degree in art history, landed a job in a gallery, made friends, and met interesting artists, one of whom became her husband. But when Hoover got pregnant, everything in her life began to unravel. She felt like an imposter in her own body. She grew distant from her friends and husband. Anxiety, fear, guilt, and shame threatened to swallow her. She also experienced trauma at the hands of one of her doctors—a stark trigger. And when her son was born, there was no… joy. Her despair was persistent, even with help, therapy, and pills. Grieving a lost identity and angry at the world around her, she found herself despising her baby, her husband, and herself. She was afraid it might not end. With the help of a doctor’s diagnosis, Hoover began to understand the cluster of symptoms that informed her experience—she was drowning in postpartum depression—and that she wasn’t a bad mother or a failed woman. At its core, The Motherload is about learning to forgive yourself. It’s a rejection of the cultural idea of the mother as a perfect being. And it’s an honest, propulsive, and often funny take on the vicissitudes of marriage, life, and parenting—a motherhood memoir unlike any other. About Sarah Hoover: Sarah Hoover holds a master’s degree in cultural theory from Columbia and a BA in art history from NYU. Her writing has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Mother Tongue, The Strategist, and Vogue. The Motherload is her first book. About Avery Carpenter Forrey: Avery Carpenter Forrey is the author of Social Engagement, which was a GMA Buzz Pick and featured by Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Buzzfeed, and other publications. As Managing Editor at theSkimm, she cowrote the #1 New York Times bestseller How to Skimm Your Life. Her writing has also appeared in The Cut, GQ, and Lit Hub. She holds an MFA in fiction from NYU and lives in Connecticut with her husband and daughter. Information Source: Athena Books | eventbrite

About It's a Love Story: “Poignant, funny, and bingeable, Annabel Monaghan writes five star reads.” —Abby Jimenez From the USA Today bestselling author of Nora Goes Off Script, a novel about a former adolescent TV actress-turned-Hollywood producer whose “fake it till you make it” mantra sets her on a crash course with her past, forcing her to spend a week on Long Island with the last man she thinks might make her believe in love. Love is a lie. Laughter is the only truth. Jane Jackson spent her adolescence as “Poor Janey Jakes,” the barbecue-sauce-in-her-braces punch line on America’s fifth-favorite sitcom. Now she’s trying to be taken seriously as a Hollywood studio executive by embracing a new mantra: Fake it till you make it. Except she might have faked it too far. Desperate to get her first project greenlit and riled up by pompous cinematographer and one-time crush Dan Finnegan, she claimed that she could get mega popstar Jack Quinlan to write a song for the movie. Jack may have been her first kiss—and greatest source of shame—but she hasn’t spoken to him in twenty years. Now Jane must turn to the last man she’d ever want to owe: Dan Finnegan. Because Jack is playing a festival in Dan’s hometown, and Dan has an in. A week in close quarters with Dan as she faces down her past is Jane’s idea of hell, but he just might surprise her. While covering up her lie, can they find something true? About Annabel Monaghan: Annabel Monaghan is the USA Today bestselling and Library Reads Hall of Fame author of Summer Romance, Same Time Next Summer, and Nora Goes Off Script, as well as two young adult novels and Does This Volvo Make My Butt Look Big?, a selection of laugh-out-loud columns that appeared in The Huffington Post, The Week, and The Rye Record. She lives in Connecticut with her family. Her novels have been translated into twenty languages. Information Source: Athena Books | eventbrite
