May 27, 2025 (UTC-5)

Folk
With fourteen albums to his credit, Dave Gunning’s remarkable body of work marks him as a true luminary in the Canadian folk music scene. Dave’s musical roots took hold in his teenage years, deeply inspired by legends like Stan Rogers and Gordon Lightfoot. His music is characterized by its storytelling and melodic sincerity, often highlighting the lives of underdogs and tackling significant social and environmental issues. Gunning has never needed to look far beyond his Pictou County, Nova Scotia backyard for inspiration. That’s where the characters live. That’s where the stories come from In many ways, the ensuing awards and accolades speak for themselves: ten East Coast Music Awards, two Canadian Folk Music Awards, four Music Nova Scotia Awards, and a Juno Award nomination for his tribute album to the late John Allan Cameron. As one reviewer aptly noted, “Gunning’s ability to blend humor with poignancy makes his performances unforgettable.” This blend is evident in his live shows, where his engaging banter and self-effacing humor create a warm, intimate atmosphere. His journey from Pictou County, Nova Scotia, to stages worldwide is a testament to his talent, hard work, and dedication to his craft. In 2022, Gunning released The Same Storm, an album written and recorded during the pandemic. It continues his tradition of celebrating everyday moments, lending a voice to the overlooked, and looking forward to the stories yet to come. Information Source: Knox Hall | eventbrite

Hidden Powers | Wellesbourne Village Hall

For the first time, Britain’s leading, 29-year-old neuro-diverse magician and mentalist from Warwickshire is appearing in Wellesbourne. Last July saw Angus play to packed audiences around Warwickshire before taking his show for a full run to Edinburgh Fringe for the first time where, again, he played to sell-out crowds, critical acclaim (“a show of really high quality” / FringeReview), and bagged a prestigious Derek Award, for good measure! To round-out the year, this up-and-coming performer joined acclaimed hypnotist, Poldark, on a 20 date, theatre tour around the UK. In 2025, his all-new show – Hidden Powers will be debuting across multiple venues throughout the UK, as well as a repeat full run at Edinburgh in August and it is a fascinating, continuing exploration of the connection between the power of the mind – certainly of Angus’ mind – as well as his own, very personal, story of growing up with (Angus’ words) “neurodivergent superpowers”. Informative & entertaining; poignant but funny; you will never leave a Baskerville show without having had both your mind blown, and your appreciation of growing up autistic advanced. *** Hidden Powers/Meal out special* - 10% off your food bill if you eat before or after the show at 'The Kings Head' in Wellesbourne. Please show your 'Hidden Powers' tickets to the restaurant staff. It’s Midsummer’s eve and deep in an enchanted forest mischief is stirring. The Fairy King and Queen are feuding, four runaway lovers are tying themselves in knots, and a troupe of quite appalling actors are preparing a theatrical extravaganza destined to impress. With shapeshifting trouble-maker Puck at the helm, the course of true love never did run smooth. ★★★★★ – “So entertaining…laugh-out-loud funny” ★★★★★ – “One of the best Shakespeare plays I’ll ever watch” – The Bristol Post ★★★★★ – “The ultimate British theatrical experience” – Hastings Independent Press ★★★★★ – “Riotously fun.
