Dr. Pitman will discuss the different levels of Conversational Control in relationships, what it is, how it works, and what happens when the level of Conversational Control is high enough to make a relationship unworkable, abusive, and coercive. Given that we all know someone having relationship difficulties or are experiencing that ourselves, the talk and the book will provide a framework of understanding and ways of dealing with it that offer clarity and confidence. Her book, “Tangled Web of Words,” provides professionals and people with vital insights into recognising and understanding these complex interactions. As a researcher, practitioner, and founder of TalkingWise, Dr. Pitman has developed essential resources aimed at professionals and those directly affected by Coercive and Conversational Control. She has authored a practitioner manual and produced a YouTube video series that clarifies the concepts and interconnections between Coercive Control and Conversational Control.
