Resurrection: The Michael Callen Story Dane Stewart, Andrew Morrisey, and Andrew Boudreau grew up playing music together in Truro. Now, the trio is coming home with a moving show about a hero from the early AIDS movement. Part-podcast, part-cabaret, and fully gay, Resurrection tells the story of early AIDS activist Michael Callen through live musical performances. The show is directed by Truro superstar, Margot Bégin. Michael Callen was a singer and songwriter who played a vital role in AIDS activism, but has been largely forgotten in recent decades. He saved countless lives by inventing safe sex in the 1980s. He created the first buyers club in America. He fought with Dr. Tony Fauci to get drugs approved faster. The show is touring the east coast following performances at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and Buddies in Bad Times in Toronto. Resurrection is based on the award-winning Resurrection podcast which is dedicated to sharing the stories of queer people whose lives have been impacted by HIV/AIDS. Since its release in 2023, Resurrection has charted among the Top 15 podcasts in Canada and was recently named one of the best podcasts of 2024 by Amazon Music, the Irish Independent, and Podcast Review. The performance will take place on Saturday, February 1 at St Andrew’s United Church, 55 King Street, Truro, NS. Showtime is 7:30pm. Doors open at 7:00pm. Kids Creativity Club is a Saturday morning art program at the Tett Centre where children and their families can experience the arts together. Each week participants can enjoy a variety of hands-on, creative arts activities with local artists and volunteers. The program generally caters to children aged 10 and under, but all are welcome. Come and explore, create, and be inspired at The Tett! There is no fee for this program, but $5 donations are encouraged to support our charitable arts organization in providing art supplies and instruction for Kids Creativity Club and other community programs. This is a 19+ Event SUN JUNKIES Sun Junkies are a 4-piece band from Brantford, Ontario. In 2018 freshly out of high school the band formed with sole intention of playing as many shows as possible. Growing up in High River, Conner graduated in 2012 and went to U-Lethbridge, where his artistic pursuits began. In 2017 Conner received their BFA in performance —— and would have graduated with honors, but chose to roast the president of the school while hosting a fundraiser the same year. Since moving to Calgary, Conner has quickly grown as an artist presence; performing with several theatre companies, including Theatre Calgary. In addition to theatre, Conner has been featured as principal roles for Netflix’s Black Summer, Joe Pickett, CBC’s Fortunate Son, and Under the Banner of Heaven, on Hulu/Disney+. Conner’s stand up has taken him all across the country, headlining, as well as opening for some of the best comics in the country, and recently being feature as a New Face of Canadian Comedy at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal. They have also performed on the Craft Island Comedy Festival 2 years running (2021/22) As a performing artist, Conner focuses on what point the intensely personal becomes universal.
