Leap into Frog Art Workshop with Sally Leggatt - Saturday 7th June | Preston Bissett Nurseries and Country Shop
Jun 7, 2025 (UTC+1)
Preston Bissett
Leap into Frog Art Workshop with Sally Leggatt
Did you know that frogs breathe through their skins as well as their lungs?! And that World Frog Day is Wednesday 20 March this year?! Lots more snippets of info about these wonderful amphibians - one of the 'Garden Dragons'! - and tips on how to encourage them to live in your garden in a fun art workshop.
And time to spend creating a piece of artwork in your chosen media, with Sally, herself a wildlife artist and gardener, on hand to help, guide and demonstrate. Bring along your favourite media, maybe try mixed media with them, get anatomical 'frog' tips, perhaps start your own garden sketchbook, and enjoy the company of like-minded people in a fun art workshop.
Meet at 10.15am for complimentary coffee and cake. The workshop commences at 10.30am with a light lunch at 1pm. If required we will take an additional coffee break. Once booked we will contact you closer the time to check your food requirements.
Sally is not just a wildlife artist but has been actively ‘rewilding’ in the garden for the last five years. Although she has always gardened without the ‘help’ of chemicals, the ‘rewilding’ has resulted in at least ten species of bumblebee in residence, including a rare fully black bumblebee. Lots more bird species, butterfly and dragonfly species, as well as toads and wildflowers are now living in her garden.
Having taught for many years in adult education, Sally’s workshops are a blend of artistic techniques and environmental activities.

HR Professionals Lunch - Sex based rights after the Supreme court judgment | Royal Wells - Tunbridge Wells
Jun 18, 2025 (UTC+1)
Lillingstone Dayrell with Luffield Abbey
The Supreme Court ruled on 15 April that the terms ‘woman’ and ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a ‘biological woman’ and ‘biological sex’. As a result interim guidance has been issued by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) on workplace single-sex facilities.
Laura will look at the practical implications for employers, which include:
1. Policy and procedures review and impact assessment
2. Staff and management training
3. Employee support systems
4. Internal communication and culture
5. Legal consultation
The CIPD have stated that ‘This ruling reaffirms sex-based rights that highlights the need for inclusive, lawful workplace practices for all. It is vital that HR and people managers navigate this with legal precision and empathy and compassion.’
Laura will support us with advice and guidance.
Plus as always popular, the opportunity to ask Laura questions and receive practical advice.
There will also be plenty of opportunity for you to network and discuss the topic with your fellow HR professionals in a relaxed environment.

Botanical printing on silk with Pam and Fran - Saturday 21st June 2025 | Preston Bissett Nurseries and Country Shop Ltd
Jun 21, 2025 (UTC+1)
Preston Bissett
Botanical printing on silk
Botanical printing is a process that captures the natural beauty of leaves and flowers that grow around us. Selected leaves and flowers are arranged on prepared fabric or paper then rolled tightly and steamed or simmered to transfer the pigments from the foliage onto the fabric. Delicate prints of the leaves and flowers are left on the fabric or paper. Pam uses natural dyes to enhance this process.
This workshop is an introduction to the many techniques that can be used to create unique prints on fabric. During the day participants will learn how to prepare and print their own unique silk scarf.
Pam Tresise
is a weaver, spins her own yarns and dyes natural fibres using botanical dyes. She has a garden studio which looks out onto a variety of plants she grows for dyeing and which inspire her work. Pam’s work can be found under ‘The Dusty Cat Studio’ on facebook and Instagram.
Fran
helps out in these sessions; she is an artist in her own right (fused glass and mosaics), a keen gardener she grows many of the dye plants used during the day. Pam and Fran have been good friends for years and the banter between them ensures that there is plenty of fun and amusement thrown in for good measure.
Meet at 10.15am for complimentary coffee and cake. The workshop commences at 10.30am with a lunch break at 1.00pm, before recommencing for the final session at 1.45pm to 3.00pm.
The workshop includes a light lunch and refreshments throughout the day. Please be aware that our kitchen contains traces of all allergens. If you have any queries, please contact us via email or calling the shop on 01280 848038.

REBECA ORTEGA
@rebecaortegaflamenco
Rebeca Ortega, a talented flamenco dancer based in Seville, has captivated international audiences with her recent productions 'The Rebellion of Silence' and 'ROOTS'. Her participation in the Suma Flamenca Joven Festival of 2022 consolidated her as one of the promises of traditional flamenco dance.
She has taken her art to stages throughout Europe, as well as to places as far away as China, Gabon, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Trinidad and Tobago, offering performances and master classes.
Her formal training includes studies in Flamenco, Ballet, Classical Spanish and Contemporary dance in recognised institutions including the Conservatory of Dance in Seville and Amor de Dios in Madrid. Under the tuition of outstanding artists such as Merche Esmeralda, La Tati and El Güito, Rebeca has developed a wide repertoire of techniques and skills, fusing her art with elements of circus and theatre.
Rebeca stood out in important productions such as "A mi manera" with the flamenco company "Teatro Flamenco La Tati", and as a solo dancer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has taught across the UK and internationally for many years, founding the group 'Nottingham Flamenquitas' whilst living in UK.
Since 2017, she has left an indelible mark on international stages, where her collaboration with circus artist Villads Bugge Bang has led her to innovative performances that mix flamenco, body percussion and physical theatre - and that have contributed to her unique style.
Rebeca continues to explore new artistic horizons, participating in projects that fuse flamenco with other forms of cultural expression, such as her recent collaboration with the famous band “PATAX”, where she fuses the movements of Michael Jackson with flamenco, and in the production “KALASETU” in London, a show that fuses traditional flamenco art with classical Indian music and dance. Her passion and versatility have established her as a prominent figure on the current flamenco scene.
