Ready to take the basics of oxy-acetylene welding and make something? SHOP240: Make and Take: Oxygen Acetylene Welding (OAW) Sunbursts! will start with a brief recap of the basics, then turn you loose to make something of your own. Focused on metal art, this $60 class we include some basic metals for you to use. If you have small pieces of yourt own you would like to consider, feel free to bring them along. Oxy-acetylene torch welding is one of the oldest welding processes, widely used for welding thin metal sections and for heating and cutting tasks. It is a flexible and forgiving process, making it a great fit for amateur to expert welders, and easily adaptable to art fabrication and sculpture. Class requirements: Closed shoes, long pants, and sleeves (no synthetic material) that you don't mind getting dirty. Long hair needs to be tied back. Class prerequisite: SHOP140 or basic familiarity of Oxygen Acetylene Welding. PPE available, if you have snug fitting leather work gloves you may want to bring them. Spaces are limited, so sign up today and let the sparks fly! Hello! I am Kathleen, but you can call me Kat. I am a multi-media artist working with welded metals adorned with found objects. I first picked up a welding torch in New Mexico the Fall of 2022 and was hooked. My favorite work is my Warrior Figures, inspired by the feminine warrior spirit of the land, wind, and fire. I also create sculptures ranging from sunbursts to snowflakes, crosses to trees, and abstract forms in between. I salvage metals of many types and past lives from boneyards, salvage lots, thrift stores and garages. Adornments are gathered from estate sales, friends’ jewelry boxes, second-life craft stores, and nature. I am so excited to be a part of the CCM community as a Metal Shop Captain and instructor. In this hands-on session, you'll be introduced to: The Basics of Welding Welding 101: Demystifying the art of melting metal (without melting your shoes) What MIG welding is and its advantages Safety considerations in welding General MIG welder anatomy MIG Welding Equipment Introduction to MIG welding machines Learning the lingo that'll make you sound like a welding wizard - MIG welder components and their functions Additional materials used for MIG welding (wire, shielding gas, metals) Preparing your workspace and equipment for welding MIG Welding Best Practices Important reminders for safe and effective welding Setting up your MIG welder (wire feed speed, voltage) Setting the proper inert gas flow for shielding Basic welding techniques (gun angle, travel speed, beads) We'll cover essential safety tips, machine setup, and basic techniques that'll have you laying down beautiful beads. No experience required – just bring your curiosity and a willingness to embrace your inner metalworker. By the end of SHOP151, you'll have the skills to tackle basic solid core MIG welding projects and the confidence to keep exploring this red-hot (but gas shielded) craft. And who knows? You might just spark a lifelong passion too! I have a background in Structural Engineering but have enjoyed tinkering with small projects and accomplishing laregr DIY home projects. Most of my knowledge is self tought and practiced over time while learning new methods of how to get things done. My other interest include mountain biking, hiking, and exploring the country with my wife and dogs. Information Source: Clear Creek Makerspace | eventbrite

Cultural Experiences
Join the Colorado Wireless Association in Wheat Ridge at COWA’s annual Pickleball Extravaganza. The COWA Pickleball Extravaganza will be hosted at 3rd Shot Pickleball indoor facility in Wheat Ridge. This event is open to all wireless industry professionals! For first-time beginners and seasoned pickleballers alike, join industry peers and other professionals for a fun day of playing pickleball and networking. The event will kick off with a taco bar lunch and a pickleball clinic to go over basic tips, standard rules, and the day’s format. Following lunch, we will kick off the tournament, which will be a team-challenge format where teams are comprised of 4 players competing in a ladder tournament format. Register as an individual and we'll pair you up with your team based on ability! Interested in playing AND sponsoring? Check out our sponsorship levels, as some include player spots! Bring your own equipment or use a loaner paddle provided by the facility. Not interested in playing but want to come hang out and have lunch and network? We got that covered, too! We look forward to seeing everyone in for what is sure to be a bopping good time! Event Format: How We’ll Play A Ladder Tournament We will be dividing the 12 courts into three separate skill levels + 1 for teaching/warmup. This could be 4 beginner, 4 intermediate, and 4 advanced. We will then set up a river or ladder style of gameplay on each grouping of 4 courts independently. This allows everyone competitive games that mix and match with the other players in their group - so the 4 beginner courts will play with one another, the 4 intermediate courts will play with one another, and so on. Within each grouping of 4 courts we will determine a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place court. 1st Court is the top court or most competitive level of play and 4th Court is the least competitive court. Players should choose their preferred level of court (or we can assign them) and then play a pickleball game to 11 points, win by 2 points. Once the games are over on all 4 courts, players will move to a new court based on whether they won or lost. That movement will look like this: ● 1st Court - The winning team will stay on 1st Court and split up as a team to each partner with a winner coming up from 2nd Court. The losing team will go down to 2nd Court and split up as a team to each partner with a player coming up from 3rd Court. ● 2nd Court - The winning team will go up to 1st Court and split up to each partner with one of the players still on 1st Court. The losing team will go down to 3rd Court and split up as a team to each partner with a player coming up from 4th Court. ● 3rd Court - The winning team will go up to 2nd Court and split up to each partner with one of the players coming down from 1st Court. The losing team will go down to 4th Court and split up as a team to each partner with a player still on 4th Court. ● 4th Court - The winning team will go up to 3rd Court and split up to each partner with one of the players coming down from 2nd Court. The losing team will stay on 4th Court and split up to each partner with a player coming down from 3rd Court. If players find they’ve entered the wrong skill level and want to move up or down - it’s easy to swap them out with another player that wants to do the same. Players that are perennially winning on a top court or losing on a bottom court may be good candidates to move up or down. Information Source: Colorado Wireless Association (COWA) | eventbrite
