I am running a small drawing group for toddlers 18 months to preschool age. We will spend half an hour together with a story, some drawing and making cards. The Storehouse is kindly letting us have the space for free, so there is only a small charge to cover materials.
I am a local artist and mother. My youngest child, Struan, will be participating, so we will very much all be working together on some mark making and age appropriate projects. This is a child and care giver group, so you will be required to stay and help your youngster.
So far, the projects have been mess free, but you might want to bring a coverall or clothes that are ok to be marked.
The Storehouse have 2 ikea high chairs and 2 booster seats, provided on a first come, first served basis. We will be in the community area,which also has a small selection of toys and books the children can play with.

Penicuik artist, Morag Donkin, will be leading a group of 8. You will be given the opportunity to paint a floral bouquet in acrylic paint, draw with oil pastels on paper and make a 1 hour study of a clothed life model using charcoal on paper. All materials will be provided, but if you have your own that you want to try and discuss with Morag during the session, this is encouraged. Often, as artists we will have unopened sets of materials, this would be a good opportunity to experiment in a supported environment. If you have a set of acrylic brushes, please bring along. All abilities are welcome. You can expect 1 hour of painting, 1 hour of drawing with charcoal and 30 minutes making a study in oil pastel. The order of these opportunites will depend on which session you book. The morning group, 10am-1pm will start by painting, then will draw with oil pastels and finish with the charcoal study of a model from life. The group 1.30pm-4.30pm will start by drawing the life model, progress on to working with oil pastels and finish with painting. There will be a tea break, where semi skimmed cows milk will be provided. Please bring an alternative if required. There is on street parking available, opposite the Navaar Hotel is often an easy spot. The group will take place in room 1 of the art centre, which is on the first floor. There is a chair lift if required, which can take a weight of up to 19 stone. You are encouraged to bring water to drink, you will not be permitted to eat in room 1 during the retreat. Please note, you are not permitted to pour acrylic waste water down the sink at the art centre, Morag will be collecting waste water to dispose of by evapouration outwith the centre.

Opportunities in February to draw a clothed model from life. Life drawing is a traditional subject in art, and remains relavent to all modern art practices. You will have access to an easel and drawing board. A1 paper will be provided, limited to 6 pieces of newprint and 2 of either sugar or cartridge paper. All abilities welcome, some materials can be provided but it is highly encouraged to bring your own materials. If you plan to paint, any waste water must be taken away with you. Oil paints are discouraged, as the room is unventilated. Any fixative must be sprayed outside. The group will be held in room 1 of the Penicuik Community Arts Association Building, which is on the first floor. There is access to a stairlift, which has a maximum weight capacity of 19 stone. There is on street parking in the local area, often space over the road from the Navaar Hotel. There will be a tea break, semi skimmed cows milk will be provided, bring an alternative if you require it.

We will be meeting on Saturdays for 2 hours over 4 weeks. Dates and subject matter are as follows; Saturday 31st May - Colour Mixing Saturday 7th June - Colour Blending Saturday 14th June - Painting from life (object still life) Saturday 21st June - Painting from photographs The group will be of roughly 10, lead by artist Morag Donkin. Morag specialises in acrylic painting and is on hand to make sure you get the most out of your session, whether you be a complete beginner or more experienced looking to try acrylic painting in a supported environment. All materials provided. You will be using Winsor and Newton Galeria acrylic paint. You may want to bring your own materials to get a feel for them, but basic supplies of brushes and surfaces will also be provided. Please bring a mug for our tea break. Tetley tea and semi skimmed cows milk provided, please bring an alternative if required. Parking in Penicuik on a Saturday can be quite busy. The B&M carpark allows for 3 hour stays, parking opposite the Navaar Hotel allows is free. The town hall is accessable to wheelchair users and has an elevator inside. The group will be meeting in the first floor Chambers room.
