Hotel Elephant Bay

Had a great room with an incredible view. It could do with a deep clean for sure and some modernisation, but for what I paid I didn’t have high expectations, all that aside I was comfortable enough and slept well. The staff were very attentive and lovely. I stayed for 3 nights which was a bit too long, I would say 1 or 2 would be sufficient as not alot to do there. The view of the elephants was incredible and I didn’t see any mistreatment as mentioned in previous comments (definitely no chains, not under the water or above when I was there).

What a great stay this was. The accommodation is beautiful, we had a HUGE bedroom (two double beds!), with a lovely large bathroom (great shower, bring your own toiletries). The room had powerful AC and a ceiling fan, so the temperature was very comfortable. We also had a huge balcony, and we could just sit outside surrounded by Sri Lankan nature - birds, chipmunks and a monkey! It was like paradise. We are vegan, but this was not a problem for the owner and his wife, who cooked the most delicious evening meal (small additional charge - and I mean small, given the quality and quantity of food!). We dined outdoors with some of the other guests, it was a really enjoyable meal and experience. Breakfast, which is included in the price, was mind-blowing! So much delicious Sri Lanka vegan food, lovingly prepared by the owner's wife and his mother. The coconut pancakes - oh my goodness! We had also arranged a half-day safari (afternoon) through the hotel, at a very good price because we were sharing with some other guests. The safari experience was amazing, our driver was great, very knowledgeable, able to spot the smallest creatures, and very respectful about not intruding, especially with the elephants. Highlight of the afternoon, as we were travelling back to the park entrance, sun starting to set, we came across a family of elephants by the side of the trail, just doing their thing. Our jeep was the only one there, so we just sat, waited and watched. Awesome! So, if you are visiting Udawalawa, I highly recommend this family-run guesthouse. Fantastic accommodation, amazing food, and such a friendly family.

It's a very cozy banglow up the hills along the main road, convenient yet quite. the staff there is also welcoming to the guests. The restaurant manager who work in Heritance Kandalama before is so kind to refer us to his former friends in Kandalama when he knew our next destination is there. The hotel manager also gave us a tour about the hotel, telling interesting history and story of this facility, making this stay more delightful.

Because Yala was in the peak of Biyuan during the trip, and wanted to go to a safari park, this is the only hotel in the zoo. It feels that the equipment is a bit old and the buffet is slightly more expensive, but there is no choice.
Elepath Lodge- Pinnawala

The hotel is located on the territory of the elephant pet , convenient as elephants are leading to bath in 8.30 6 elephants. And in 10.00 a large group with kids. You can come to the main crowd of tourists to see and take pictures of elephants, and feed them. We arrived in the evening at 18.00. We settled , the only thing asked for a receipt for payment was not found at once, so changed the symk at the airport. But we settled and waited until we found the receipt. So it was all closed we went to dinner at the restaurant by the river. We took rice with pork and beef, rice is delicious, and meat is overfried and hard. We gave a price more at the cost of the dishes, but almost 1,000 rupees were not waiting. Hotel clean but tired, there was no shampoo , only soap. The teapot was. , as they took without breakfast drinking coffee in strip bags . (taken with them) Very good , friendly staff . Close the doors and windows, lie down and at 2400 start breaking into the balcony door, pulling the pen, then ran on the roof and started to pull the door in the pen. In the shadow near the door they realized that it was a monkey.. The hotel recommends. Although there is cheaper. It is more expensive by the river , in principle not necessarily, everything is available.
Max Safari Villa

A homestay specially set for safari. In fact, the landlord Max will contact you in advance about Safari. If you have a good communication, you can directly not book a room. We don't respond in time, so forget it. The room is a small bungalow with a small yard, very comfortable, the bed also has a mosquito net, although the air conditioner is not needed Sleep quality is OK, because I have to get up at 5 in the morning, Safari comes back to eat breakfast. In a word, Safari is great.
