Hotel near Wu Yi Square/Orange Island,Changsha
Beside Sujia Lane on Huangxing Road Pedestrian Street, a small red-brick building lies hidden. Before it stands an ancient statue that has gazed for a thousand years; inside, the memories of the Grain Bureau have settled for over half a century. Today, this rare Soviet-style red-brick building in Changsha is writing a brand‑new story for “Atour S.” A Dwelling Where Eras Meet Atour S Hotel, Changsha IFS Guojin Center Wuyi Square, is located at No. 36 Sujia Lane in the Baiguoyuan Historical and Cultural Block. Its predecessor was the office building of the Hunan Provincial Grain Bureau, first built in the 1950s. This three‑story red‑brick structure is a typical and rare example of Soviet‑style architecture in Changsha. It was listed as a Municipal Cultural Heritage Site in 2014 and selected as a “20th‑Century Chinese Architectural Heritage Site” in 2023. Nearby historical relics, such as the former printing site of Xiangjiang Review, give the area a rich cultural atmosphere. The Atour Group defines itself as “creating a sanctuary for body and mind.” Atour S is an upgraded line of Atour hotels – the “S” stands for “Special,” focusing on business travelers who seek quality living and offering premium experiences. The hotel fully preserves the building’s historic character and courtyard layout. Complete Amenities for the Ideal Business Stay The hotel offers various room types and facilities including a buffet breakfast (Xiang Zhao), a self‑service laundry (Chu Chen), a gym (Han Chu), the Zhu Ju reading space, and a small meeting room. The Atour S brand emphasizes the coexistence of art and practicality: public areas exude an artistic flair, while room design balances comfort with function, creating a gallery‑like visual experience and warm, home‑like service. “Zhu Ju” features a “flowing library” concept, offering a curated selection of books for guests to enjoy free of charge. “Chu Chen” laundry provides convenient clothing care for business travelers, continuing the Atour brand philosophy of being “humane, warm, and interesting.” Prime Location for Effortless Travel Located in the core commercial area of Changsha, the hotel offers outstanding convenience: 3‑minute walk to Huangxing Square Metro Station (Line 1) 5‑minute walk to IFS Guojin Center 5‑minute walk to Wuyi Square, Huangxing Road Pedestrian Street, and Pozijie Street Approx. 8‑minute drive to Orange Isle, Yuelu Mountain, and other Changsha landmarks Sujia Lane also preserves a statue of the great Song‑Dynasty writer Su Xun and the legend of “Laoquan Biejing” (a secluded path named after his literary name), creating a delightful contrast with the 1950s Soviet‑style red‑brick building. This quaint, tranquil yet downtown lane allows you to experience Changsha’s old‑city charm while plunging instantly into its modern bustle and convenience. Here, you will find the historical depth of a century‑old red‑brick building, the distinctive taste of Atour S, and the utmost central convenience of Changsha. Business travel and quality living – both are yours to enjoy.

"Highly recommend Atour S Changsha Wuyi Square (formerly Hunan Provincial Grain Bureau Old Site)! This Soviet-style red-brick historical building from the 1950s, a Chinese 20th-century architectural heritage, perfectly preserves its original stone plaques, five-pointed star gatehouse, retro red walls, and era-specific slogans. It offers a unique historical charm amidst the bustling city, with tranquil and elegant courtyards and a strong cultural atmosphere. The biggest surprise was that the entire hotel was completely free of the musty smell common in old buildings or any renovation odors. The ventilation and sanitization were impeccable. The guest room furnishings were warm and soft, with thoughtful and meticulous arrangements, making for an exceptionally relaxing and comfortable stay. It completely sheds the impersonal feel of traditional hotels, providing a strong sense of home and belonging. The service was warm and attentive throughout: Front desk staff, Jiarong, handled check-in efficiently and gently, patiently guiding us on nearby attractions. We highly recommend the in-house photography service, Wei Yu Travel Photography; photographer Xiao Ming was very professional, actively guiding poses and selecting the best angles, and the final photos exceeded our expectations. When checking out and arranging for refunds and luggage storage, Miss Muhuo was meticulous and thoughtful, handling everything perfectly. From check-in to check-out, the entire experience was top-notch. Staying in a historic old house and enjoying a comfortable and thoughtful travel experience, I left with a fantastic mood. This is definitely my first choice when visiting Changsha!"

They were consistently responsive to all our enquiries, which made the experience smooth and stress-free. The location was exactly as described—peacefully situated near the forest, offering a relaxing and natural setting. MMarta Izsofova from SlovakiaThe hotel is literally next to the East gate. The place is beautiful, the room was clean, comfortable, the breakfast rich and tasty. The staff's English is a chalenge, but they are sweet, very polite and readily using translator, so we always found the answers to our questions.

DdaulyanovaIt was one of our best hotels. The staff was very polite and kind, they helped us with everything, booked tickets for us and suggested which route was better to choose. The hotel provides a shuttle service from the train station/airport, which is very convenient. And most importantly, they have a tea ceremony, please take advantage of this and get to know the culture better. Rooms with great views. The hotel is very cozy and clean. We had a great rest here. I hope that one day we will come back to you again. Best wishes, your guests❤️

GGuest UserGetting to Orange Isle is super convenient; you can either walk across Xiangjiang Bridge or take the subway just one stop. It's also only about 3 stops to downtown areas like Wuyi Square. Environment: The surrounding area is a bit so-so, with a few construction sites, but it's very quiet. Service and hygiene were both excellent, making me feel right at home.

GGuest UserI chose this hotel for my trip to Changsha, and the location couldn't be better. It's close to Wuyi Square, making it super convenient for shopping and trying out all the popular local eats. The whole hotel has a new Chinese-style decor, with solid wood furniture and traditional Chinese soft furnishings, creating a really atmospheric and photogenic space. The front desk staff were very attentive and even arranged complimentary breakfast for me. The breakfast had a great variety and tasted good. My entire stay was exceptionally comfortable, and I'll definitely rebook next time I'm in town!

GGuest UserHost is a super nice guy and very helpful. He helps you book your tickets as well as with communication and he has many good tips for you. Usually people hang downstairs, there are also three cute cats. Usually people order food and have dinner together. You will easily meet fellow travelers here. The place is otherwise very basic and could need repairs and more frequent cleanups. But that is not the focus here. The hostel is also close to the starting point to Tianmen mountain. PS: The package for the avatar mountains has hiked to 450 RMB including cablecars and elevator (you can use the ticket on 4 consecutive days). 12 RMB to take the bus to its south gate. You need two days to finish the avatar mountains. Then one more day for Tianmen mountain. Another day for the canyon, if you want.

GGuest UserI had an absolutely amazing stay at this hotel with no complaints at all! The location was right by the East Gate of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, which made it super convenient to walk over. It was also near the bus station, which can take you straight to the west railway station. The room itself was super big, spacious, and clean. Above all, the best part of this stay is definitely the hosts. The inn is run by two sisters who were genuinely the sweetest host I’ve met. They offered discounts to the park, provided recommended route for each day, offered self-grown/picked tea at night, provided food recommendations + discounts at nearby restaurants and were overall super friendly to talk to. If I ever had any questions, I would message them on WeChat and they were super quick and extremely helpful! I highly recommend this stay to anyone travelling to Zhangjiajie/Wulingyuan!

GGuest UserBooked this hotel by chance, and it was pretty clean. The hot water came out fast and had good pressure, and the air conditioning was excellent. The rice noodles for breakfast were delicious, definitely worth trying – much better than the Zhou Ji noodles (my personal opinion), which were a complete mess. One minor issue: the toilet splashed water when you sat on it. On the bright side, the subway station is right on the -1 floor, making transportation very convenient.

GGuest UserFor the view of the mountains, this stay is so awesome. If you mainly want to see the Zhangjiajie National Park, I really recommend this hotel. For me, I underestimated the amount of time it would take to get to Wulingyuan and Zhangjiajie city. It was a little inconvenient for me because I had to call taxis if I wanted to go out to eat and it was kind of far. A lot of taxi drivers would ask me for a tip because the location was difficult to reach. Apart from the location issue, I really enjoyed my stay. The breakfast was delicious, the staff were so accommodating and kind and even drove me to Zhangjiajie city on my last day. The dogs were so cute and the view of the mountains was stunning. If you want a perfect getaway from the city and stunning views, then this is the place for you. If you want to hangout in the more lively places, it might be kind of a hassle. This hotel is perfect for those who want a peaceful and relaxing getaway.

EEloise L.This is probably the best hotel I’ve stayed at by far. If I come back to Changsha, this will definitely be my go-to hotel from now on. First and foremost, the hotel is clean! That’s my biggest pet peeve when it comes to hotels, and this place exceeded my expectations. The hotel is also themed, so the atmosphere feels much more pleasant and unique compared to a lot of modern hotels. I especially loved the small library space they have. The room itself is spacious, and the layout is perfect. I like that there’s a separation between the toilet area and the shower area. I also appreciate that the windows can be opened for fresh air. Overall, the room is super quiet, which made the stay even more comfortable. The service is impeccable. Check-in was smooth, and they offer free laundry service and complimentary afternoon tea every day during your stay. You can also request bottled water for free, and the minibar is stocked with drinks and snacks that are all complimentary as well. Honestly, I can’t think of a single issue I had during my stay. Highly recommend!

GGuest UserMy best friend and I came to Changsha for a trip, and we chose this guesthouse based on its aesthetic appeal – it truly exceeded our expectations. It's located inside an alley but very close to the entrance, so there's no need to worry about safety. The location is absolutely fantastic; you can walk directly to attractions like Wuyi Square, Huangxing Walking Street, Pozi Street, and Wenheyou. It's also walkable to popular restaurants like Cuiyan Xiaochao Huangrou (Stir-fried Beef), Ben Luobo, and the famous Black Classic Stinky Tofu – incredibly convenient. Regarding the service, the customer service via WeChat was incredibly responsive and helpful, always addressing any questions or concerns. When we checked in, they even helped us with our luggage. Every evening, there's complimentary late-night snack, and the mung bean soup is absolutely delicious. The facilities are also excellent; the washer-dryer combo was very useful. I highly recommend this guesthouse. It excels in safety, photo-friendliness, and convenience.
