I recently had the pleasure of staying at ASO Base Backpackers during my visit to Aso, Japan, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. This charming hostel exceeded my expectations in every aspect and left me with beautiful memories of my time in Aso. First and foremost, the location of ASO Base Backpackers is simply breathtaking. Situated at 1498 Kurokawa, it offers a serene and picturesque setting surrounded by the natural beauty of Aso. The hostel is nestled amidst lush greenery and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. It truly felt like a hidden gem, providing a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the warm and friendly staff who went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. They were incredibly helpful, providing valuable information about the area and offering suggestions for activities and sightseeing. Their genuine hospitality and passion for ensuring a memorable stay made a significant impact on my overall experience. The accommodation at ASO Base Backpackers was cozy, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. The dormitory-style rooms were clean and well-maintained, with comfortable beds and ample storage space. The communal areas, such as the lounge and kitchen, were inviting and provided opportunities to connect with fellow travelers from around the world. The hostel fostered a sense of community and camaraderie among guests, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. One of the highlights of my stay was the opportunity to explore the surrounding area. ASO Base Backpackers offers a range of outdoor activities and excursions, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the natural wonders of Aso. The rooms are compact but well equipped with everything you need. A clean and comfortable space. The people at the hotel are also kind and cheerful, and I would like to use them again. The garden is also comfortable with grass and shade. If I had a deck chair, I would like to take a break and have tea.

The rooms are relatively Japanese-style and old, but clean! The room is very spacious and there is also a hot spring to soak in! There are both outdoor and indoor facilities, so it’s very suitable to reserve time to soak in the hot springs.

A ryokan with the feel of an old film movie that is very cost-effective... I wanted to stay there when I came to Tsuetate before, but I couldn't sleep because I was leaving for another city on my schedule, so I ended up staying for one night this time. It is a ryokan that is often said to be full of charm. Even though it was difficult for those who like modern style, I also really liked it. Breakfast and dinner were good, and the generous amount of rice was also good. I also enjoyed the public bathhouse, which was used like my private house, whenever I felt like it. I'll go again next time haha

This is a great place to stay if you want to be in a peaceful and quiet location. It is in the village with not much disturbances. The owner is very helpful and try to answer your questions about bus and train services in the area. You can find some local restaurants nearby using your Google map. The restaurants are close around 3 to 4 pm most days. The closing hours for the restaurants are not accurate. This is a small town; if they don’t have costumers after a certain hours in the evening, they will be closed. Be mindful about that and come prepared with snacks and food!

A very satisfying stay! The design of the cabin is stunning. The two-story independent cabin allows children to climb up and down as much as they like. The owner of the B&B is very enthusiastic. Even if he doesn't understand the language, he tries his best to use translation software to introduce Kurokawa Onsen's attractions and B&B facilities. It really makes people feel like returning to their hometown. Kurokawa is very quiet at night, and you can really enjoy the tranquility and leisure of the deep mountain hot springs. The cabin is fully equipped and can be used for simple cooking. I cooked Japanese sukiyaki pot with the children in the cabin, which was very satisfying! The outdoor hot spring in the B&B is another amazing place. Because it was summer, we didn’t make a reservation for the hot spring. The owner of the B&B enthusiastically invited us to enjoy it (unexpectedly). Unexpectedly, it turned out to be an independent open-air hot spring. I highly recommend making a reservation. It’s too Feel comfortable! The next day, the children were very reluctant to say goodbye to the owner of the B&B and the owner's dog. Along the way, they still missed the comfortable bed (actually just a tatami sleeping mat) in the B&B. I will definitely visit again next time I have the opportunity! I honestly do not know where to start, I booked the hotel without really knowing much about Kumamoto Prefecture. After arriving in Kumamoto City and then realising Ueki Onsen is another 40 minute bus ride I was thinking oh dear where am I staying. After arriving at the hotel I was greeted by the manager of the hotel who showed me to my room and gave me a tour of the facilities. Once settled in I realised there isn't great public transport around and I primarily wanted to see Beppu and Yufuin during my stay, I enquired with the manager on where I might be able to rent a car, with little to no Japanese language under my belt he took it upon himself to reserve a vehicle for me and offered to drive me himself to collect it. He then also said he would take me back to return it a few days later. After my trips to Beppu and Yufui village (Not to be missed) and not to miss the outstanding and beautiful surroundings in Uekimachi and the Aso region. The manager and I set off to return my hire car, on the way back he took me to Kikuchi shrine to pray and also gifted me coffee and cake. They also accommodated me with use of the on site onsen (amazing) after hours as I'm heavily tattooed. I feel truly grateful to have found this hidden gem of rural Japan and if you are thinking of traveling this great country I emplore you to go off the beaten path. I experienced untold kindness during my stay and have memories of a life time. Thank you so much guys

The hotel is located right at one of the very busy shopping streets of Kumamoto with many shops and restaurants. We had had very pleasant stroll there and had dinner and snack. The room is very spacious and clean. The two matt glass windows cannot be opened per se. One has light and the other very little. The soap provided is of better quality than that of the other hotels I have stayed in. The dispenser says Kao.

The room was very clean and the soundproofing was a bit poor. I stayed for three nights. I didn't know why the table started to walk around at four or five in the morning every day. I didn't know what I was doing. There was no free parking space. The parking lot on the side was 500 yen a night.

The host was very welcoming and spoke fluent English. They provided free tickets to a nearby hot spring, which I visited every day—a rare treat. The guesthouse is located away from the city center, making it very quiet. There is a tram nearby, making it convenient to travel to the city. At night, the surroundings are quite empty and the lighting is dim, but it feels very safe.

The host is very friendly with a neat guesthouse. Help me when I come and go by car. This is a guesthouse with good value for money so that I am willing to visit again.

The hot spring hotel in Kurogawa was not booked, and Trip.com chose a holiday house in the nearby Tibetan hot spring. Arrive before 6 o'clock, otherwise the staff will get off work. The house is very old, the name is ”Mei”, and the other house is a very new one and should be much more comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped; The indoor hot spring is very hot, you have to try the temperature before entering the water. The towels are small and you have to bring your own bath towels.

It was a separate room surrounded by a forest. The sound of the crow's cry is very soothing and soothing. The open-air bath is open for 24 hours, and the natural hot springs are changed every time.It's the best.I took it 5 times (lol) This was my second time using this service, so I was able to borrow a steaming basket, etc., so I bought the ingredients in advance at the supermarket or frozen them at home.
