Help! I just got back from Xishuangbanna, and I never want to go there again in my life...😫 Hey guys! Who understands! I went to Banna with such high expectations, but ended up being so utterly humiliated! Thinking back on all the pitfalls now, I'm so pissed! 💢 First, let's talk about the weather. It was a blast! 🌞 40°C with 90% humidity. Five minutes after leaving the house, my clothes were soaking wet, like they'd just been pulled out of the water! It was 30°C+ at 8 a.m., and still suffocating at 10 p.m. Occasionally, there were sudden downpours. The raincoats at the scenic area cost 20 yuan each, and they were so poor quality they fell apart at the slightest rip! Even though I applied sunscreen, it was like I hadn't applied any at all. Sweat washed it all away, turning it into a white liquid that ran into my eyes, stinging them so much that they were tearing up! 😭 And let's talk about the crowds. It was truly a queue hell! Tickets to the Wild Elephant Valley cost NT$60, and the sightseeing bus ride cost NT$50. I waited in line for two hours for a five-minute elephant show, standing in the scorching sun the entire time, sweating profusely and questioning my life! 🌚 The Starlight Night Market was even more crowded, forcing me to walk sideways. My phone signal was completely cut off, and I tried to snap a picture only to be filled with passersby's heads! Tickets to the West Zone of the Chinese Botanical Gardens were NT$80, and the electric cart was NT$50. The East Zone is completely undeveloped, so it was a complete waste of money! The worst part was the cost! Popular restaurants like Chonburi and Wantai had lines starting at two hours, and cost over NT$150 per person, and the food was worse than street food! 😤 At the night market, spring chicken feet were NT$30 each, Laotian iced coffee was NT$25 a bag, and small pineapples in the scenic area were NT$15 each. But when I went to the Mango Fruit Market, small pineapples were only NT$5 each, and mangoes were NT$4 per pound. It was a complete rip-off! But I did find quite a few treasures! Admission to Manting Park is 40 yuan, and the Dai King's Royal Garden is a photogenic spot! Admission to the Tropical Flower Garden is 40 yuan, with plenty of shade and less crowds, making it a very pleasant stroll! Admission to the Dai Garden is 65 yuan, and there's a daily water splashing activity, so remember to bring a change of clothes! 🍃 For food, I recommend the Mamalao sticky rice, 2 yuan each, and coffee, only 2 yuan a cup. Kutai Thai Restaurant is 40 yuan per person, and the curry shrimp is delicious. The Pu'er time-honored vinegar rice noodle ice jelly, 5 yuan a bowl, is a perfect summer treat! Finally, here are some survival tips for everyone! Ride a shared e-bike in Jinghong City for 3 yuan an hour, much faster than a taxi! 🚲 Stay outside Gaozhuang, which is 50% cheaper than the city center and a 10-minute walk to the night market. Try to choose a hotel built after 2023; old B&Bs simply don't have enough air conditioning! Be sure to bring mosquito repellent with you, as tropical mosquitoes are extremely toxic, and bites can cause swelling that can last for days!
