The Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon is Myanmar’s most sacred Buddhist shrine, with its magnificent tower covered with 7 tons of gold, set with 5,448 diamonds and 2,317 gems, dazzling in the sun. The legendary tower is dedicated to the eight Buddhas of Sakyamuni, whose history dates back to 585 BC and has been repaired for thousands of years, becoming one of the three major monuments in Southeast Asia. Tourists need to walk around the tower barefoot, listen to the crisp sound of more than 10,000 gold and silver bells, and feel the pious Buddhist atmosphere. At sunset, the tower reflects the sunset, intertwined with the lights, and is more solemn and mysterious, which is a miracle of the perfect integration of religion and art.
The Shwedagon Pagoda is a gilded stupa located in Yangon, Myanmar. It is considered the most sacred Buddhist site in the country and is a popular tourist destination. The pagoda is said to contain relics of the four previous Buddhas, including the staff of Kakusandha, the water filter of Konagamana, the robe of Kassapa, and eight strands of hair from Gautama. The pagoda is situated on top of Singuttara Hill, and it towers 99 meters (325 ft) above the city skyline. The stupa is covered with gold
I went to Yangon just to see this! Its my first time in Myanmar, and this experience was truly majestic. Recommended time to be is 4:30pm - to see sunset view, and transition to night time, as the the pagoda is being lighten up. You have to remove your shoes at the entrance. I spent almost 3 hours exploring the area, then just sat in a good spot to witness the transition from day to night! It was a truly satisfying moment for me.
The place was amazing that I could'nt imagine how they did it. But feel so blessed and fortunate to experienced and see the pagoda.
Yangon's Chinatown is home to about 150,000 local Chinese and overseas Chinese. The century-old Guanyin Temple (locally known as the Guangdong Temple) is a popular gathering place for tourists. It is crowded with people in the morning and evening, and very lively.
The Shwedagon Pagoda is located on a sacred mountain in the north of Yangon, at the highest point in Yangon. It is a landmark of Yangon and one of the most worthwhile tourist attractions. Built in 585 BC, the Shwedagon Pagoda is a world-famous pagoda and a symbol of Myanmar. It is a Buddhist holy place in Myanmar and even Southeast Asia. When we went there, we encountered the regular repair of the Shwedagon Pagoda, which was wrapped up outside. Although it was a bit regrettable, it did not affect the worship of believers and tourists. The surrounding large and small pagodas are exquisitely shaped and golden, which is also very beautiful.
The grandeur of the Shwedagon Pagoda was totally unexpected I have seen many ancient buildings, and some of them are indeed very touching, such as the Egyptian pyramids, the Taj Mahal in India, and the Angkor Wat in Cambodia. However, no matter how imaginative I am, I am not mentally prepared for the Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar. I really didn't expect it to be so majestic.
