800 RMB retirement paradise! Prices here are back to what they were 20 years ago—don’t miss out!
Friends, when you think about retirement, do you immediately think of high prices and tight pensions? Don’t worry! After traveling all over, I’ve truly discovered a magical place—Da Lat, Vietnam!
Don’t say you can’t spend 800 RMB (about 2.8 million VND) a month here. If you’re a bit frugal, you can live like a god. Don’t believe me? Let me break down the numbers for you!
Housing: Settling down is so easy!
In Da Lat, renting a beautiful small villa with a little yard for flowers and vegetables costs only about 1000-1500 RMB per month. Hey, don’t rush—I’m talking about one person! If you find a like-minded roommate to share, it’s just 500-600 RMB each!
Want to save more? Rent a small local apartment, clean and cozy, for just 300-400 RMB. That big expense drops right away.
Food: Enjoy freedom with fruits and vegetables!
This place is Vietnam’s “vegetable basket” and “fruit mountain”! Thanks to the cool climate, it produces plenty of vegetables, strawberries, avocados... Just imagine:
· Breakfast: A hot bowl of Vietnamese Pho or a Banh Mi sandwich with coffee, only 5-6 RMB.
· Lunch/Dinner: Go to the market and spend a dozen RMB to buy a big basket of fresh fruits and veggies. Want meat? Order a stir-fry at a small eatery with rice and meat for 10-15 RMB, very satisfying. Cooking yourself? Even cheaper!
· Coffee: This is the coffee kingdom. Any roadside café serves authentic drip coffee for just 2-3 RMB, perfect for sitting all afternoon.
By this calculation, spending 400-500 RMB a month on food alone lets you eat very well and healthily.
Transportation: Scenery right outside your door, taxis won’t hurt your wallet
Da Lat is small; you can walk around the core area easily. Want to visit waterfalls or gardens farther out? A taxi starts at just a few RMB, and traveling across the city costs only 10-20 RMB. Renting a motorbike for a month costs a few hundred RMB, fuel is cheap, and you can enjoy the breeze and freedom.
Environment & Healthcare: Comfortable body and mind
· Climate: Located on a 1500-meter-high plateau, temperatures stay between 15-25°C year-round, spring-like all seasons, no air conditioning needed. This is like a bug in Southeast Asia!
· Scenery: The whole city looks like a European town, full of flowers, old villas, the charming “Crazy House,” and the clear Xuan Huong Lake. Every day you open your window to a view—it’s hard not to feel good.
· Healthcare: Retirement means healthcare. Da Lat has top-tier large hospitals in Vietnam, with low costs. A simple illness visit costs just a few dozen RMB, no worries at all.
Total cost & how to enjoy
Look: housing (shared) 500 + food and drinks 450 + miscellaneous and transport 200 = 1150 RMB. Oh, seems a bit over?
Don’t worry, this is my “comfortable version” with some extra. If you cook more yourself and save on transport, 800 RMB is definitely doable, and your quality of life won’t drop one bit.
What to do daily? Learn a few Vietnamese phrases from friendly market vendors, stroll by the lake, relax in cafés, listen to church bells... Life here is so slow you forget time.
Expert tips:
· You can start with a tourist visa to stay for a month or two and experience it firsthand.
· Learn some simple Vietnamese for easier living.
· Da Lat locals are simple and friendly, no worries about fitting in.
So, don’t think retirement has to be a heavy burden. In Da Lat, with a budget of 800 RMB a month, you can enjoy a warm, blossoming, and peaceful quality old age. This cost-performance ratio? I dare say, it’s hard to find anywhere else in the world!

Xuan Huong Lake is a stunning lake in Dalat’s city center. Walking around the lake takes about 1 hour and it is a great spot to catch the sunset. You can rent a Swan boat and paddle around the lake. The path is also freshly paved and makes walking comfortable
🌟The scenery is stunning: 🌊The lake is as clear as a big mirror, shaped like a crescent and the map of Vietnam. Surrounded by green mountains and shaded by green trees, the blue sky, white clouds and mountains are reflected in the lake, which is breathtakingly beautiful😍The lake is sparkling under the setting sun in the evening, and there are swans playing, and various flowers on the shore are blooming gorgeously. There are different color feasts in different seasons. 🧐Humanistic charm: It is named after the female poet Hu Chunxiang, which has a lot of cultural connotations. The Catholic Church by the lake is elegant and dignified, full of French style, with a sense of history and exotic characteristics intertwined. 🎉Leisure is super fun: You can fish, row a boat, ride a water bike, and have fun. Very interesting name, very interesting story, listening to the story and looking at the blue lake in a daze is a wonderful leisure during the trip
This is Xuan Huong Lake in Dalat. The name comes from a Vietnamese poet named Hu Xuan Huong, which is very creative. The lake is very big. I walked around the whole lake. It was crazy. It is very beautiful, poetic and picturesque. There are restaurants, hotels and shops around the lake. You can even take a swan boat to tour the lake. The weather is very cool because of the lake. This is definitely a must-visit place in Dalat. There is also a night market around it. After killing time by the lake, I went to visit the night market. This place is like a symbol of Dalat. When you first come to this peaceful place, it is one of the places you should visit first. The lake is very big. And the night here is the most interesting. Many people are doing many activities around it, such as eating, chatting, riding bicycles, eating barbecues, etc. Especially on rainy days, fog will appear and cover the entire lake. This is something you can't experience in other places in Vietnam outside of Dalat. I really like this feeling.
Xuanxiang Lake has a beautiful legend. It is so pleasant to sit by the lake, drink a cup of coffee and watch the lake.
Although there is nothing particularly beautiful about Xuan Huong Lake in Dalat, it adds a lot of leisure to this small city. There are many small vendors selling snacks along the lake, and there are also big C supermarkets and squares nearby. There are many flower sellers near the Spring Festival. It is very pleasant to ride a bike around the lake.
