Famous scenic spots and historical sites in the mountain, such as the Golden Summit, Sheshan Cliff, and Jiulao Cave, are all named after Emei Mountain. Temples were first built in the Sui Dynasty. Buddhism and Taoism coexisted in the Tang and Song Dynasties. Su Dongpo once left the inscription "Lao Emei Mountain" here, and historical figures such as Peng Duanshu left poems. The existing temples were first built in the Han Dynasty. At its peak, there were 48 temples and 36 nunneries with thousands of monks. The annual pilgrimage fair, which has a history of 1,600 years, is held on the sixth day of the sixth lunar month.[7] The scenic area charges 40 yuan per person for admission. From May to December 31, 2025, the scenic area will participate in the mutual exemption of admission tickets between Sichuan and Chongqing (excluding the Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day holidays).[6][8] Local specialties include frozen rice cakes, peanut roasted chicken, and Yunwu Maofeng tea. Starting in 2024, a series of cultural and tourism activities will be launched based on the summer resort IP, including hiking challenges and parent-child adventures.[9] The tourism poverty alleviation and quality improvement project will continue to be promoted.
