Lavender and SunLocated in the Mesopotamian Plain, about 4,000 years ago, people here established a country and a kingdom. It is one of the "Four Ancient Civilizations". It was originally an Akkadian city. Its history can be traced back to the Akkadian Empire about 4,300 years ago. "Mesopotamia" is called "Shinar" in the Bible, which means "the land between the two rivers", so it is also called the Two Rivers Basin.

Dr BPCurrently being renovated/restored, so a lot of it is inaccessible. But it makes a dramatic sight in the downtown part of Erbil. Very friendly and welcoming local tourists hang out here too, so be prepared to pose for a lot of photos.
