Daoyun Lou is located in Nanlian Village, Sanrao Town, Raoping County. Built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, it is the largest Hakka tulou discovered in China to date, with a history of over 400 years. The main gatehouse is inscribed with the three large characters "Daoyun Lou". Commonly known as the "Big Building," it is octagonal in shape, faces north, and has a circumference of 328m, a height of 11.5m, and walls 1.6m thick, with a total area of approx. 10,000 square meters. The building features uniform tiled roofs, and bamboo nails were used instead of iron nails to secure the structure; to this day, not a single beam or pillar has been damaged by insects. The houses inside the building are divided into 3 sections with a total depth of 28m. The front and middle sections are single-story houses, with a courtyard left behind each of the middle sections, ensuring ample light despite the depth of the building. The rear section is a 3-story building. The entire building has 56 main rooms and 16 corner rooms. The core area of the building is a plaza paved with pebbles on the edges and yellow earth in the center. To the south, there is a north-facing hall. In front of the hall, there are two public wells on either side, and another 30 wells are located under the partition walls between the main rooms, with each room sharing half of a well and having access to water. In addition to the gun and cannon ports around the building, the top of the gate is specially equipped with a hidden water channel to prevent fire. The entire building serves eight defensive functions, including protection against military chaos, clan feuds, fires, cold and heat, and earthquakes. Unlike the Hakka walled villages in southern Jiangxi and northwestern Fujian, which mostly have square or rectangular layouts, this building is a building with a distinctive octagonal layout.

Nan'ao Island

Nan'ao Island is located in the waters where Guangdong Province and Fujian Province meet, and is an island county. On the island, there are mainly Treasure Island, Qing'ao Bay, Huanghua Mountain National Forest Park, the Commander's Office,Song Welland other attractions such as the Die Shi Yan. The scenery of Nan'ao Island is naturally formed. Because it has been developed relatively little, the environment is well protected, and many rocks, plants, and trees still retain their original appearance. The beach scenery is also beautiful, making it a lesser-known spot for photos. In addition, there are some historical sites on the island that you can visit in your spare time. In Huanghua Mountain National Forest Park, there is a high mountain; climbing to the summit allows you to view the boundless sea, and at the foot of the mountain there are several stone turtles, which are quite distinctive. The Zhenzong Mansion andSong WellThey are all historical relics. The former was built in the early Ming Dynasty and was rebuilt in 1983 as the Commander's Office. Those interested in history can take a look. The latter, as the name suggests, is a well dug in the Song Dynasty and has a long history. There is also the Stacked Stone Rock, which is a peculiar rock whose appearance is two huge boulders towering and stacked on top of each other, very distinctive. About transportation Nan'ao Island is not large. On the island, you can reach each attraction by bicycle, rental car, or self-drive, and there are also round-the-island sightseeing bus routes available to ride. About stay and dining Accommodation on Nan'ao Island is mainly concentrated in the Xiawei Bay and Qing'ao Bay areas, and overall, the environment is average. Xiawei Bay is located in the southeast of the island, near the passenger bus station andSong WellRelatively close, the hotels here are mainly homestays, and it's better to stay here if you want to eat seafood. Qing'ao Bay is located on the southwest side of Nan'ao Island, and Changshanwei Pier is nearby, which means if you come by ferry, you are actually near Qing'ao Bay. It's better to stay here if you want to enjoy the sea view, and in the evening you can also see the beautiful island sunset. Most restaurants on the island are seafood stalls, offering a rich variety of seafood that is fresh and delicious, and well worth trying.

There are two main reasons why you'll enjoy the visit: First, you'll be immersed in the wonders of nature, with strange rock formations, underground rivers and caves, and geological forests all blending together to create a stunning and unique landscape that's definitely worth a visit. Second, it's great for children and perfect for family educational trips. Taking kids to the Qinglan Geological Museum and exploring the geological sites firsthand allows them to connect with nature and learn about geology—a fun and educational experience that combines learning with play.

Among the more than 600 earth buildings in Raoping County, Guangdong, there is one that is uniquely ancient, large, strange and beautiful. It is China's largest castle-style octagonal earth building and a national cultural relic protection unit - Daoyun Building! It was built in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties and has a history of more than 400 years. Daoyun Building is currently under renovation and is expected to be open in a year! Worth looking forward to [strong]

We didn't catch any squid, but the owner helped us by casting a net every half hour, bringing up quite a few. We had a barbecue on the boat, which was a nice way to relax and have some fun in the evening. Even though we didn't catch any fish, we still had a barbecue and seafood porridge dinner.

The park is very large and you can spend a whole day there, but the ticket price is a bit awkward. The package is more affordable, but it is generally difficult to know what you want after entering the park if you have never been there, so it is difficult to choose a package, but it is not worth buying a single ticket after entering. Apart from this, the park is well maintained and worth visiting. The cross-provincial check-in points are very unique.

Xunzhou Island is another quiet little island besides Nan'ao Island. It is a niche tourist attraction. It is very quiet, with few people and the indigenous people are also very simple. It is a good choice to come here to relieve stress.

I came here because of its reputation, and visited Chaozhou Ancient City, Guangji Bridge, Guangji Tower, and Kaiyuan Temple to learn about Chaoshan culture and taste local delicacies. In March, the spring sunshine was just right, the weather was pleasant, and I felt very comfortable.

While traveling in Chaoshan, I discovered this hidden gem. It's clear the residents were from a prominent family; the houses are enormous, and I heard that it used to take a whole day just to open and close the windows. It's full of Southeast Asian charm and incredibly photogenic. Online ticketing is very convenient; highly recommended.

A trip to Chaozhou is incomplete without visiting the Guangji Bridge. As one of China's four ancient bridges, the Guangji Bridge truly lives up to its name. Its ingenious design, combining beam, pontoon, and arch bridge elements, makes it a unique, movable ancient bridge. With pavilions scattered across the bridge, adorned with red lanterns, and the Han River flowing gently by, walking on the bridge creates a truly immersive experience. You can appreciate the superb bridge-building wisdom of the ancients while enjoying the river breeze and the scenery on both banks – a must-see in Chaozhou!

After visiting the Thai Buddhist Hall at Kaiyuan Temple, a taxi ride cost just over three yuan took me directly to Han Yu's Ancestral Hall. Walking there would have been 1.8km, which would have been quite tiring. Taxis are relatively cheap in Chaozhou. This place mainly introduces the life of Han Yu from the Tang Dynasty, his contributions during his exile to Chaozhou, and praises his patriotism and dedication to the people. It's worth taking a short stroll, as the reservation ticket is free, essentially like visiting a small park. The ticket entrance for Guangji Bridge is just over 100 meters away. After visiting Guangji Bridge, you can go directly there to experience the culture and charm of a pontoon bridge before returning to the ancient city, avoiding backtracking.
