Matsushima is an archipelago consisting of more than 260 large and small islands scattered around Matsushima Bay in the central part of Miyagi Prefecture. On the gray-white rocks stand dense pine trees. Here, you can see the representative bay features of Japan, which are produced according to the seasons. Various changes. After arriving at JR Matsushima Kaigan Station, walk about 5 minutes to the Matsushima Tourism Association, where you can get some tourist brochures such as maps. Taking a cruise on Songdao Bay is the main way to visit, not only can you easily enjoy the beautiful scenery of many islands under the blue sky and white clouds, but also see many vibrant seagulls. In addition to the cruise, there are also many temples near JR Matsushima Kaigan Station, which you can visit on foot or by bicycle. Zuigan-ji Temple is designated as a National Treasure of Japan, and its doors, lintel windows, Japanese sliding doors, and ornate paintings of alcoves are all worth admiring. There are also historical sites exuding the cultural flavor of Date, such as the Five Halls, Guanlan Pavilion, Yuantong Courtyard, and Tianlin Courtyard. To the northeast of Zuigan Temple is the Shintoyama Mountain. The observation deck on the top of the mountain has a panoramic view of Matsushima Bay from the front, so don't miss it. If you come to Matsushima during the cherry blossom season, you can go to the westbound Matsushima Park on the west side of JR Matsushima Kaigan Station. This is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in Matsushima. From the observation deck of the park, you can enjoy the superb view of cherry blossoms and the beauty of Matsushima Bay, which is very emotional. There are also "four major landscapes" in the east, south, west and north of Matsushima Bay - Otakamori, Tamon Mountain, Fangu, and Toyama. From these four places, you can see the scenery of Matsushima with different expressions. These four places are far apart, and if you have enough time, you can arrange to go to one or more of them for viewing. Oysters are a specialty of Matsushima, so don't forget to try them when you come to Matsushima. Every year from October to March of the following year is the season when Matsushima oysters are more delicious. During this period, there will be an oyster hut (かき hut) restaurant open for all you can eat.Matsushima · 24km from Osaki

Ginzan Onsen

Ginzan Onsen is named after the silver mine discovered hundreds of years ago. As the silver mine gradually declined, the area turned to developing hot springs, eventually forming the hot spring street seen today. Multi-story wooden inns are lined up along both banks of the Ginzan River, featuring white plaster walls and exposed wooden beams, preserving the retro style of the Taisho era. After nightfall, the gas lamps on the street and the lights from the inns illuminate each other, and when snow covers the roofs in winter, it appears even more serene and quaint. The center of the hot spring street is primarily for pedestrians, and there are foot baths along the river where you can take a short break while strolling. Continuing deeper into the valley from the hot spring street, you can reach Shirogane Falls, where water cascades down the rock face, surrounded by lush trees. Remains of the former silver mine tunnels are preserved nearby, with some areas illuminated, allowing for short visits to learn about the local mining history. The natural trails along the way connect streams, rock faces, and mountain views, presenting different scenery as the seasons change. Please note that after snowfall in winter, some trails leading to the tunnels and deeper parts of the valley may be closed; please pay attention to on-site signage when visiting.Obanazawa · 36.9km from Osaki

Yakurai Garden is located at the foot of Mount Yakurai in Kami, Kami District, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. The park covers an area of approx. 150,000 m² and is a popular large-scale themed flower garden in the Tohoku region. Built on the gentle slopes of the mountain, the entire park is divided into eight unique themed gardens, cultivating over 400 types of flowers and plants that present distinct natural scenery as the seasons change. The garden offers a variety of seasonal themed events throughout the year. In spring, canola flowers, tulips, and nemophila bloom in succession; in summer, the sunflower fields and the umbrella corridor made of a thousand colorful umbrellas attract many visitors; in fall, sage and cosmos are in full bloom, and the park features Halloween-themed decorations. From late fall to winter, a limited-time "Starlight" illumination show is held, where the garden is adorned with numerous candle-shaped lights, creating a serene and dreamy nighttime view. It is not only a leisure spot for flower viewing and outings, but also frequently hosts location shoots, small markets, and other events. When traveling to the northern part of Miyagi Prefecture, Yakurai Garden allows visitors to immerse themselves in the unique charm of the four-season flower fields on the Tohoku plateau.Kami · 20.6km from Osaki

Matsushima is located on the east coast side of Miyagi. It is one of the must see coast side area in Japan. The scenary around the area is amazing. You can take JR to there if you are not driving. It is closed to Sendai, so it would be great for a day trip or so from Sendai. There are many small islands around and it would be excellent to take photos on the hill so you can capture the whole beautiful scenary.

It's a beautiful light blue swamp. There's a shooting range nearby, so you can hear gunfire. It seems they also have boat rentals.

The snow and the retro townscape matched beautifully. The gas lamps were warm, so I recommend visiting in the evening or at night.
