Van Gogh Museum

The Van Gogh Museum, located on Museum Square in Amsterdam, is a national art museum primarily dedicated to the works of Van Gogh. It houses over 200 of his oil paintings, hundreds of drawings, and a large collection of letters exchanged between him and his brother Theo, making it one of the largest collections of its kind in the world. The origin of this collection is itself a story: after Van Gogh's death in 1890, his paintings were kept by his brother Theo; Theo also died shortly afterward, and his widow, Johanna van Gogh-Bonge, devoted her life to organizing and exhibiting these works, which had been largely ignored during his lifetime, ultimately bringing them together to form this museum. The permanent exhibition unfolds along a clear timeline based on the works created: from the somber tones of "The Potato Eaters" from his Nuenen period in the Netherlands, to several self-portraits from his Paris period, then to "The Yellow House," "Bedroom," and "Sunflowers" from Arles, and finally to "Almond Blossoms" and "Wheatfield with Crows," created in Saint-Rémy and Auve-sur-Oise during the final stages of his life. Van Gogh's creative trajectory over a mere ten years is readily apparent. In addition to his own works, the museum also displays paintings and sculptures by contemporary artists such as Monet, Gauguin, and Rodin, many of which were personally collected by Van Gogh and Theo. In Gauguin's "The Man Painting Sunflowers," the protagonist is none other than Van Gogh himself, painting sunflowers. The architecture itself is also worth examining: the main building, designed by Dutch De Stijl architect Rietveld, opened in 1973, with exhibition halls unfolding in layers around a spacious atrium; the elliptical wing, designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa, was completed in 1999 and is specifically designed to host large-scale temporary exhibitions; and the all-glass entrance building, opened in 2015, connects the old and new buildings. The museum is consistently popular, with large crowds during peak hours; if you plan to thoroughly explore the permanent exhibitions, it is recommended to allow ample time for your visit.Amsterdam · 43.8km from Lelystad

The museum has a large number of precious historical relics and exhibits, including aircraft, engines, models, photographs and documents. It is a good place to gain an in-depth understanding of the history of aviation and the development of technology. Aircraft Collection: The museum has a collection of more than 100 aircraft, ranging from early aircraft to modern passenger aircraft, fighter jets, etc. Among them, the most eye-catching is the Boeing 747-200 "Louis Bleriot" of Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM), the world's first double-decker aircraft, which was purchased from KLM in 2004 for a symbolic price of 1 euro. Aviation History Exhibition: Through rich exhibits and detailed introductions, it shows the development of the Dutch aviation industry, including early flight pioneers, the establishment and development of airlines, and the Netherlands' innovations in aviation technology. Other exhibits: In addition to aircraft, the museum also has a large collection of aviation-related artifacts and materials, such as flight suits, flight instruments, aviation maps, airline promotional materials, etc. These exhibits provide visitors with a more comprehensive perspective on aviation history. Architecture and layout Indoor part: It is divided into several exhibition halls, each with different themes and exhibits. For example, there is an exhibition hall dedicated to the development history of Dutch airports, showing the evolution from early simple airports to modern large airports; there is also an aircraft model exhibition area, which displays models of various aircraft, allowing visitors to understand the structure and design of aircraft more intuitively. Outdoor part: It is a large aircraft display area, displaying many large aircraft, such as Boeing 747, DC-3, etc. In addition, there is also a display of the style of the Dutch Capital Airport in the 1970s, so that the audience can feel the style of the airport at that time.Lelystad · 7.9km from downtown

A must-visit place when you come to the Netherlands, this is the museum with the most works by Van Gogh. Of course, the exhibits in the Rijksmuseum also show that the Netherlands is a very wealthy country.

Located in the rural area of Lelystad, it's accessible by bus. The biggest highlight is the retired Boeing 747 exhibition, where you can tour the entire interior of the aircraft. There are also several fighter jets and other vintage planes; we stayed until closing time. Highly recommended for aviation enthusiasts.

A canal cruise in Amsterdam is one of those experiences that makes you fall in love with a city all over again. 🇳🇱❤️ Gliding through the peaceful canals, surrounded by charming historic houses, beautiful bridges, and reflections dancing on the water, feels like stepping into a postcard. ✨🚤 I love discovering cities from a different perspective, and Amsterdam’s canals make every moment feel magical. A simple boat ride that turns into a memory worth keeping forever

Giethoorn truly resembles a fairytale town, with more waterways than roads, and small boats moored in front of every house. Low houses with reed-roofed roofs line the waterways, their gardens meticulously manicured. Renting a boat and rowing yourself is the most relaxing way to experience it, slowly gliding under small bridges, with meadows and wild ducks on either side. The main street is somewhat commercialized, but turning into the side streets brings tranquility, with only the sound of oars paddling through the water. It's best to visit on a sunny day; the slippery roads can be quite inconvenient on rainy days.
