Oia

4.7/5
646 reviews

Oia is built along the cliff, with white-walled, blue-domed houses and churches layered along the inner cliffs of the caldera. The sunset is an iconic view here. Every evening, tourists follow the main path to the western end of the town, where there are two main viewing spots: one is the seaside platform next to the castle ruins, where the remaining stone tower walls hang over the cliff edge, offering a wide view; the other is the small square below the windmills, where several traditional windmills stand out in silhouette against the sunset. The town is also worth exploring slowly during the day. Walking along the cliff path through the narrow white alleys, you will pass several blue-domed churches, including the three connected blue domes that are a common sight on postcards. Several old-fashioned windmills stand at the northern end of the town, which is another iconic view.

Santorini is a crescent-shaped island formed by a massive ancient volcanic eruption. The west side of the island features continuous cliffs, with blue-domed churches and white-walled houses layered along the cliff tops, overlooking the deep caldera bay. Restaurants, cafes, and specialty shops are spread along the slopes at the edge of the caldera. In the evening, the terraces facing the sea are filled with crowds waiting for the sunset to sink into the Aegean Sea. The island also preserves the Akrotiri ruins, which were buried by volcanic ash. This Bronze Age settlement was perfectly preserved by the volcanic eruption and is known as the "Pompeii of the Aegean." The east coast of the island features black and red sand beaches formed by volcanic geology, which are completely different from the cliff views on the west side.

Three Bells of Firais one of Santorini, Greece's most iconic landmarks, attracting many visitors. The whitewashed walls, vivid blue dome, and the deep blue Aegean Sea complement each other, creating a highly recognizable Mediterranean scene. Its clean architectural lines blend with the vast sea and sky, showcasing the pure beauty of traditional Greek architecture and conveying the island's calm and romantic atmosphere. This church is located along the cliffside path between Fira and Firostefani, right at the edge of the caldera. The church is small in scale, but its delicate form and unique location make it especially eye-catching. The white buildings are terraced into the hillside, and the blue dome looks especially bright in the sunlight. The adjacent bell tower and the layered whitewashed houses together form an elegant composition. Below the church are steep cliffs, and beyond them lies the deep caldera bay. The unique topography gives the site unforgettable visual depth.

Firais located on the caldera cliffs in the west of Santorini, Greece. Built into the hillside, the town features whitewashed houses spreading layer by layer along cliffs hundreds of meters high, where blue-domed churches, narrow cobblestone alleys, and well-arranged terraces weave together into a charming picture. In the distance, the deep blue Aegean Sea and the islands within the caldera complement each other, attracting many visitors. Strolling through the streets of Fira, you can see traditional houses with white walls and blue windows, exquisite souvenir shops, specialty cafes, and various restaurants everywhere. Winding paths sometimes pass through quiet residential areas and sometimes lead to cliffside viewing platforms with expansive views. Standing on the cliff edge and looking out, the deep blue seawater surrounds the volcanic islands, and the layered mountain and sea views are refreshing.

Red beach is located on the southwestern tip of Santorini, Greece, adjacent to the Akrotiri Archaeological Site. Unlike the common black volcanic beaches in Santorini, this beach is famous for its rust-red cliffs, deep red gravel, and clear, turquoise water. The striking color contrast makes it a classic scene in many travelers' photos. This beach is hidden in a small bay, backed by undulating volcanic rock cliffs that display various shades of rust red, dark red, and brownish red. The sand and stones underfoot are deep in color, while the water in the distance transitions from light turquoise to deep blue. The red cliffs and the blue sea complement each other, creating a strong and unique visual effect. Standing near the bay and looking out, it feels as if you are in a natural painting created by the volcano and the ocean.

Castle of Oiais located in the town of Oia on the northern tip of Santorini, Greece, and is one of the island's historic landmarks, as well as a classic spot for watching the sunset over the Aegean Sea. The weathered stones bear witness to the passage of time, adding a touch of history and mystery to the site. As evening falls in Santorini, tourists have already found their vantage points, sitting or standing quietly, waiting. The once bustling paths gradually empty out, the crowds converging on the cliff edge, becoming the first fixed scene before sunset. Standing on the steps of the blue and white houses, watching the sunset transform the sky from orange-pink to golden-red, then slowly into a golden hue, the town itself seems draped in a golden veil, so beautiful it makes you forget everything. Finally, the entire sunset glow sinks into the Aegean Sea, even the surface is covered with shimmering gold, the wind carries the light scent of sea salt and olive trees, there is no noise, only the sound of the waves lapping the shore, slowing down along with the light and shadow.

If Santorini is a business card of Greece, then the blue-domed church should be the business card of Santorini, because at some point it was on the cover of National Geographic Magazine, and thus became a globally known attraction. What’s more coincidental is that this attraction is so simple and straightforward that it’s almost otherworldly. You don’t need high-level photography skills or think about angles. Just the “click” at the entrance is the undisputed best of the day.

There is also a cliff hotel view, but the view is worse than that of Oia town. There are many small shops and a strong commercial atmosphere. The roads are very narrow. If you encounter cruise ship passengers, you have to queue when walking.

The red of nature differs from the imagined vibrant red, but the red from this volcanic eruption is still breathtaking. The journey from the parking lot to the red beach is a bit challenging, about a 10-minute hike up a mountain path or where there's no path at all. Those who enjoy a challenge will appreciate it, marveling at the wonders of nature. I'm grateful for my taxi driver's patient service; as a local, he could tell many local stories, and his price was reasonable. At my request, we even stopped along the way to photograph the grapevine basket—a unique way of wintering grapevines in Santorini. You can contact him if you need a ride.

Very nice scenic spot, with the famous black beach, various restaurants and hotels, close to the airport, and buses to Fira (blue-domed church). The hotels here are relatively cheap, making it an ideal place to stay when traveling to Santorini. [Scenery] Beautiful. [Fun] Sunbathing, sea fun, mountain climbing. [Value for money] Free, cheap hotels.

We arrived at the old pier and found a pirate ship to jump on. It cost 15 euros per person and took 3 hours to visit the volcanic island and hot springs! You need to wear sneakers when you go to the volcanic island, otherwise your feet will be easily cut by stones! When we arrived at the hot springs, the boat was anchored in the middle of the sea and everyone needed to swim to the shore. Many foreigners came prepared, and bikini girls rushed into the water one by one, which was spectacular! Those who are good at swimming can give it a try! If you can't swim, you can ask for a lifebuoy to paddle over, which is more embarrassing!

Imerovigli is geographically far away from the commercial area. Most hotels have standard holiday facilities such as SPA, restaurant, cafe, swimming pool, etc. The white houses, azure blue water and unbeatable sea view are like a fairy tale world.
