However, although the last day was supposed to be free time, they still scheduled a day off, greatly shortening my free time and disrupting my plans... Overall, though, the trip was still very worthwhile...★

The tour guide's arrangements for lunch on the first day were terrible. There were three tables in total; the other two tables had been eating for ages, but our table hadn't even had our food yet. We waited for about an hour, and the tour guide was nowhere to be found, completely ignoring us. Later, when we spoke to her, she said she hadn't eaten either – a terrible way to handle the situation. The Super 8 Hotel near the Big Wild Goose Pagoda was quite nice, I was very satisfied. On the return trip, there was a traffic jam on the highway, and we didn't get back to the hotel until 11:30 pm. The tour guide wasted too much time; we all got on the bus and waited for her for half an hour. Ugh!★

I was nervous about using an eSIM for the first time, but it turned out to be one of my best travel decisions. I installed it the night before my flight in about five minutes: scanned the QR code, followed the prompts, and kept it off until I landed. Once I turned data on, I had a signal before reaching baggage claim, with no airport SIM queues. There are plenty of plans, with daily or total data and validity from 1 to 30 days. I chose a total-data plan since my usage varied day to day. I used it mostly for Google Maps, searching, messaging, social media, and booking rides, and it rarely dropped out. It supports 5G where coverage is available, and I saw faster speeds in busier areas, though remote spots fell back to 4G. The biggest plus was keeping my home number active while the eSIM handled data. Make sure your phone is eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked, and install it on wifi.
