We participated as a three-generation group with my mother and children! The meeting place was very easy to find. All instructions were in English. As long as you can understand a little, you should be fine. There were no other Japanese people or families with children, but our guide, Tommy, was very considerate, so we felt at ease. There is a separate entrance fee to Yehliu Geopark (pay later). We ordered lanterns in Shifen on the bus and paid for them at the store (we couldn't choose the store lol). We also picked up and paid for the chicken and ice cream recommended to us on the bus at the same store. We got off the bus just before Jiufen Old Street and transferred to a bus bound for Old Street, so the bus fare was $45. The meeting time and location were clearly communicated, so it wasn't difficult to find. It would have been a pain to get there by train, so I think it was a great deal considering they took us around by bus! (Purchased during a half-price sale.)
