I purchased my EasyCard in Taiwan through Trip.com, and it was super convenient. I took the Shinkansen from Taipei to Tainan. Since my flights were Tokyo to Taipei and Kaohsiung to Tokyo, I booked a one-way ticket. You can make reservations on the Taiwan Shinkansen website, but you must print your ticket at the ticket counter. The Taiwan Shinkansen operates frequently, so unless it's a particularly busy season, I think it's fine to choose your flight when you pick up your ticket at the ticket counter. Taipei Station is just as complicated as Tokyo Station, and the signs seem less strict. Rather than rushing to decide on a flight, I think it's best to just board the last one when you arrive. It's best to decide whether or not to make a reservation depending on your travel period and schedule. You'll need to go to a staffed ticket counter, present your passport, and then pick up your ticket.★

This is a great option if you're arriving late at night! You can get your bus ticket right away by showing the QR code you received at the ticket counter. There was a line from the airport to Taipei Station late at night, but buses depart and arrive frequently, so it wasn't too long. The return trip from the station to the airport took about 40 minutes, about the same time as the MRT, so you can sit and enjoy the ride. However, since it was a Saturday afternoon, there may be traffic jams depending on the time of day, so be careful when planning your trip.★

Taipei has a well-developed subway system that is super convenient. This time, I spent 3 nights and 4 days using the subway to the fullest and eating my way around the city. The round trip from the airport to Taipei Station and unlimited subway rides were well worth the 3,000 yen. You can use it as much as you want within the validity period, so there's no need to worry about recharging. I highly recommend it!★
