Reviews: Edge of the World with 4x4 vehicles, sunset Dinner and stargazing

Mashari Majed is a legend. (excuse me if I didn't get his name right) He’s a licensed tour guide certified by the Saudi Ministry of Tourism. I know this because we had long, engaging conversations throughout the trip. I was curious about his profession and what it takes to be a tour guide in Saudi Arabia—and I’m glad to learn that the country takes this role seriously. The result was an outstanding experience led by a genuinely excellent guide. Mashari made the entire journey interesting and enjoyable. He ensured that my brother, cousin (who was seated in the back), and I were comfortable and having fun the whole time. He shared stories about the history of various places, including the origins of village and road names along our route. His storytelling was lively, intuitive, and always engaging. He also took us to scenic spots he personally loved, which made the experience feel more authentic and less scripted. A true outdoorsman, Mashari was clearly experienced and capable—he kept us safe, provided timely breaks, and struck the perfect balance between structure and spontaneity. About the Tour Experience The Edge of the World itself is simply stunning. I’d been dealing with a lot of work-related stress, and this trip felt like a much-needed reset. I imagined turning all my stress into a ball and tossing it off the cliff. It was that freeing. We connected with fellow travelers, swapped stories under the stars, and shared a meal together. The dinner—Kabsa (a traditional dish of chicken and rice)—was admittedly a bit bland. But there was a story behind that. Our guide explained the difference between Kabsa cooked in a kitchen and one made in the wilderness: fewer ingredients, more simplicity. It was meant to be part of the authentic wilderness experience, and I appreciated the explanation even if the flavor was muted. On the way to the Edge of the World (about a 1.5-hour drive from the Riyadh pickup point), we stopped for a bathroom and snack break, visited a gazelle reserve where we took photos of the graceful animals, and explored nearby valleys. Mashari taught us about the geographic formations and local history, adding depth to the sights. The return journey—roughly two hours—flew by. We exchanged more stories with Mashari, making it feel like a 20-minute ride. I’ll remember this day for a long time. P.S. We went on a hot June 27th, 2025, but the desert climate at sunset was surprisingly pleasant and added to the magic of the experience. The trip started at 3:15pm and we were back by 9:30pm.
