The shuttle ride there and back was very quick. Both drivers were friendly and chatty. Good sized car park and communication prior to hike was excellent!

We would definitely choose this shuttle again for our next Tongariro Crossing hike, as you can simply get back into your own vehicle after the hike without having to make phone calls or wait. And: there are plenty of parking spaces at the meeting point, even for campervans. Regarding the track itself: it's about 21 km to the parking lot, which isn't short, and this trail isn't suitable for a casual hike. There's no climbing involved, but some sections are steep. There are plenty of drop toilets, so don't skimp on water. We used 2 liters per person; it was a sunny day, but not hot. Toilet paper wasn't always readily available. Definitely bring sunscreen and check the app for messages the night before. A fantastic experience, highly recommended!

Easy to use with good coverage overall, though in the mountainous areas of the South Island, coverage for all operators is quite limited unless you use a satellite connection.

The guide was super friendly. He offered us also to bring us back in case anything happens that changes our mind. Wasn't necessary but always good to know the opportunities :)
