Kyoto's subway system is quite fragmented... Planning your itinerary before purchasing the ticket will make it much smoother. Tip: Grab a ticket when there's a discount on the platform. It's been used successfully. The main thing is that you need to order one day in advance. On the day of ordering, you can only book tickets for the next day. From the second day onwards, you can book tickets for the same day if the departure time is more than 5 minutes away. You can book on the spot. I booked a train departing 10 minutes later at the Nanhai Station entrance after clearing customs. When entering the station, the staff gave me a piece of paper showing how to show the QR code; you just need to scan it both when entering and exiting. The biggest advantage is that you don't have to queue, as there are still many people buying tickets at the airport. This train is quite comfortable and fast; you can see that regular trains are very crowded.
