Don't stay in Shirakawa-go for too long; 3 hours is enough. The scenery is beautiful. Also, Wednesdays and Thursdays are their holidays, and the temples there are basically closed. I don't know if the shop owners know this, but they could remind you. Don't eat the takoyaki in the picture; it's terrible, very soft and mushy, and the service is bad too.
