Reviews: Kaikoura Whale Watch Day Tour from Christchurch

As this is a weather and nature/wildlife dependent activity, there is never a 100% guarantee that you will see whales. So, do approach with an open mind. The alternative nature tour offered was equally rewarding. We got to watch several dolphin pods playing, swimming near the catamaran and jumping off the waters, seals, several varieties of sea birds, albatrosses running on the water’s edge to take flight and so on. So, I still had a fun day.

One of the things we love about New-Zeeland, is the fact that wildlife is kept wild. This also means that there is a big distance with the sperm whale. Therefore it’s sometimes hard to see or imagine how big they are We encountered 4 of them. One time they were swimming with them 3 next to each other. Even the crew was exited about this. We were lucky and the sea was also pretty calm, thank god for that haha. Crew was funny and kept us entertained. Don’t forget to look back when you are outside on the boat to see the mountain range. However, if we would do it again, we probably would go on a plane tour!
