Reviews: One-Day Tour from Hohhot to Xilamuren Prairie (Gallop Across the Endless Green Sea, Encounter the Nomadic Heart)
Guest User2026-05-09
We booked this day trip to Xilamuren Prairies for 2 people and had a good experience overall. The team contacted us on WeChat the day before to confirm pick-up from our hotel near Dazhao Temple. We travelled by minibus with 5 other travellers, a guide and a driver. During the journey, our guide, Wu Rina, shared information about Inner Mongolian culture in Mandarin and used translation apps on her phone to explain the optional activities in English. Each activity costs extra. We chose the 40-minute horse ride, which we really enjoyed. Although it was not the green season, the landscapes were still peaceful and impressive, with very few tourists. Lunch included traditional clothing, music, drinks and a shared meal inside yurts. Before returning, we stopped at a local ethnic museum and souvenir shop. A special thank you to Wu Rina for being cheerful, helpful, and always making the effort to communicate with us in English.
Reviews: Hohhot Departure: Kubuqi Desert Day Tour (Diverse Desert Activities, Optional Camel Riding Experience)
Guest User2026-05-12
We had a delightful day trip to the Kubuqi Desert. Mr Wu, our driver, confirmed the 8 a.m. pick-up the day before. His 6-seater was comfortable, and though we needed translation apps, he was friendly and shared local insights, thanks! We first visited Chilechuan Prairie, learning about a famous Chinese poem about it, and seeing the Genghis Khan statue. A car generator issue was quickly resolved, and a new driver took over seamlessly. Everything was handled efficiently, allowing us to continue. In the desert, you need a package to access the site, and all packages come with extra costs. We did Package C: 4×4 dune driving, 10-minutes camel riding, and sand sledging, and enjoyed a short walk to explore. At first, nearby urbanisation limited the sense of remoteness, but walking on warm sand with the wind shaping the dunes was magical. We returned to our hotel at day’s end. A great introduction to Inner Mongolia’s desert, though those familiar with deserts might find it less impressive.
