Traveling solo, I was completely intimidated by all the Egypt guides I'd read online. With trepidation, I booked a day tour, and it completely changed my expectations. My guide, a middle-aged man, was incredibly enthusiastic and professional, filling me in on Egyptian history. He explained he'd been a Chinese-speaking tour guide for over 20 years, welcoming numerous Chinese tourists. His proud expression was truly endearing. At the end of the trip, I tipped him and the driver $10 each, which was well worth it. Cairo is shabby, but not as scary as the guides suggest. The driver and guide the travel agency arranged for me were truly wonderful people!

The trip was made extra special by our guide (Asma) and our driver. We started our trip a little earlier and they made sure we had a very good breakfast and enough to drink along the way. Starting earlier also meant we could visit most of the attractions before too many tourists were there. Asma is knowledgeable and friendly, she enjoys talking about Egyptian history and sharing her insights. The trip itself covers all points of interest as listed in the schedule and you have ample time to explore everything. The meals included were more than we expected and we could not finish everything at all! The shops we visited before lunch were an experience in itself and very much worth it! We came in July (hot months) and I have to say that yes, it is hot, but all is manageable and worth it!


