It was our first time in China, and on the very first day off the plane, we went on this tour to Gubei and the Great Wall. The guide was purely organizational: helping us buy tickets, arrange transportation, and tell us where and when to go. Overall, we enjoyed the trip. We were very pleased with the lunch; the guide found a good restaurant where we tried the local hot pot.★

I had the opportunity to travel to Gubei Water Town near Beijing, which was definitely worth the trip. The tour guide explained in detail and the main attractions were impressive. As soon as I entered the door, I was deeply attracted by a pond of carp. The colorful and large carp swam freely in the water, as if I were in it. I don’t have time to go to the Jiangnan water town, so I came here for a stroll on the weekend, and my mood immediately became relaxed. The long corridors, the ancient houses on both sides, the deep water in the middle, and the beautiful scenery everywhere made me overwhelmed and dazzled. I really want to grow two more eyes to take in this beautiful scenery. Being here made me feel the slow pace of life. Walking in this scene, my soul was as clear as if it was washed by clear water. The attractions that impressed me the most are still vivid in my mind. The Qinglansujing cloth in the courtyard of Yongshun Dyeing Factory is hung high, and it is refreshing to walk through it; Sima The whole process of wine making in the small distillery and the huge cellar dazzled me; the performance of the Zhenyuan Bidding Bureau, with its qigong throat-holding spear, was shocking to me; the brightly lit Gubei Water Town at night was even more breathtaking: the musical fountain on Wangjing Street was a marvelous experience combining auditory and visual senses; at night, tourists gathered at the Sun and Moon Island, and the Kongming lanterns rose slowly, as if mailing my thoughts to distant places; the drone show was even more colorful and eye-catching... The boat ride in Gubei Water Town must be checked out. There were a few people sitting leisurely, and the rowing master rowed slowly, slowing down everything. The comfort in my heart was beyond words, and I left reluctantly, still wanting more. I will definitely come again in the future, not just once or twice, but many times. I really like Beijing's Jiangnan Water Town★

If you wanna see the Great Wall without a lot of people, this is worth the distance to go far. It was a 2 1/2 hour drive. We had our five year-old son with us and we took the cable car to the Jinshanling Great Wall area after we got dropped off by the tour bus and got picked up by a private car to go to that area, which is about an hour away from Simatai, where most of the group was at. after we got drop off on the side of the road, we got picked up by a private car it was about 30-40 minute drive. There wasn’t much communication we had to use Google translator. He took us to a restaurant a little bit off the beaten path and said we should have lunch keep in mind you don’t have to.★

Jack was patient and drove steadily to and from Gubei Water Town, which took almost 4.5 hours round trip. Once there, it was nice to see the Water Town, but the bigger draw was the Simatai Great Wall section. It was not crowded at all (compared to pictures taken at Badaling and Mutianyu), and there’s a cable car which goes up to Tower 5. As I was traveling with my parents (~65 years old), we hiked up to Tower 8 and walked on the actual Wall down to Tower 5 before walking back to the cable car on the flat path. For those that have physical difficulties, it’s still recommended to walk to Tower 5 on the flat path. Please note that it’s a bit pricey (320 RMB pp for entry into Gubei WTown, 2-way cable car ride and Great Wall tickets) but it’s very much worth it to avoid the crowds. At the end of the trip, Jack recommended a wonderful local lamb hotpot restaurant and dropped us off there directly. Would highly recommend.
