This is a small group tour (just the two of us) that takes you out of the city, through the canal locks, and into the surrounding lagoon which is historically and culturally important to the development of Aveiro. We learned about the historic salt industry on which the city was founded (since Roman times), about the fishing industry both old and new, how the estuary is a vital part of Aveiro, and the modern industrialization of the port. Our host was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly. We saw various wildlife, historic structures related to the salt industry and the more modern fishing and shipping vessels.★
