Unity of Italy Square

Unity of Italy Square is the main square of Trieste and one of the largest seaside squares in Europe. It is surrounded on three sides by tall white buildings, while the fourth side faces the bay. Once the main seaport of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, it was a prosperous port city and a center of music and literature, but it gradually declined after being incorporated into Italy. The square is surrounded by important buildings such as the Palazzo degli Elefanti, and many locals gather here, making it very lively.

Victory Lighthouse

This monument was built immediately after the end of World War I, thanks to the unwavering commitment of architect Arduino Berlam. The old lantern no longer served the port's needs, and a new lighthouse was needed to commemorate this historic moment. In fact, in addition to its role as a navigational safety feature, the Lighthouse of Victory served a dual purpose: to celebrate the transition of Trieste to the Kingdom of Italy and to commemorate those who died at sea during World War I. The lighthouse stands within the complex of Fort Cresic, one of the city's important Austro-Hungarian positions, dating back to the mid-19th century. Every element was designed to have a strong symbolic value. Now a major national monument, the lighthouse offers visitors the opportunity to observe the city from a panoramic perspective.

Grotta Gigante

Grotta Gigante is located near Sgonico in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy and is a distinctive local karst cave view. As the name suggests, the cave is impressive for its massive interior space. With expansive cave halls and huge stalactites, stalagmites, and rock walls formed over long periods of geological change, it is easy to feel the spectacular underground world shaped by nature once you step inside. After entering the cave, visitors can follow a designated route deep underground to admire diverse rock formations under lighting. As the route progresses, the surrounding space alternates between narrow passages and expansive openings, creating an experience completely different from the natural scenery on the surface. The temperature inside the cave is relatively stable. Even if the weather outside is hot, you can feel a distinct chill inside, so it is advisable to bring a light jacket when visiting.
