Halswell Lodge

Hotel location is very good, in the center of Wellington, the parking lot is on the upper floor, to go up a steep slope, parking fee 15 NZ / day. The interior decoration is a bit antique and has a sense of history. The downside is that I arrived at the hotel on Christmas Eve, and the front desk was closed (should be at 7 pm), saying that I sent an email to me, but I didn't find it in fact. Still the cleaning guy, contacted me, opened the key box, and got the key.

My partner and I stayed overnight in room 316 last night. We arrived and was quickly given our key card. The lady at the desk seemed nice enough. We got to the third floor and noticed the carpet in the hallway was filthy and lumpy. We felt like we would trip over! Entering the room, the linens were clean and the room had obviously had a 5 minute clean, but parts that were missed bothered us the most. On the textured ceiling, there was a thick layer of dust, so thick in fact, that it looked like dust bunnies were about to fall off, as shown in the photo. This made for an uneasy sleep, as it seemed very unhygenic. Splatters above the toilet and on the mirror in the bathroom were also noticed, as well as black spots from the ceiling due to mould. Wifi and the TV worked fine, but the heating element in our jug had turned black on the inside, and black bits were showing in our cups, so tea was out of the question. The next morning we had breakfast. This was the best part of our stay. Good options and plenty of food. Overall 2 stars. For this price, you'd expect better.
Museum Apartment Hotel, Independent Collection by Evt, an EVT Hotel

We have always enjoyed staying at QT Museum Hotel. We were given the option to upgrade to a Seaview room on the top floor with an additional charge. Seeing it is a more quiet room compared to my booking request on the 1st floor near road traffic and rubbish bin area, I paid the extra for the upgrade per night for 2 nights. Our room was not serviced well the following day. Rubbish bin in the bathroom being the only one was not emptied. The Bath and Shower gel was not replenished, we had to asked for it to be refilled. the cushions on the bed was still on the floor from the night before, the ironing board was still left out - I did not put it back as the iron was still very hot after ironing my dress for my conference that morning. The gym facilities was very tired with all towels being used and the used towels bin was overflowing. I was very disappointed with my stay this trip, using shortage of staff since Covid is a very old excuse now. Systems and procedures should be in placed by management to ensure the 5 star ratings is upheld. No point upselling or selling more rooms if they cannot keep customers happy to come back again. This was not only my opinion but that of my colleagues. very disappointing!
Hotel Waterloo & Backpackers

Wellington Central Business District
My partner and I stayed at Hotel Waterloo & Backpackers for a weekend in Wellington. We had a private room with ensuite bathroom. The room was tidy and clean, located at the end of the hallway (quiet - Bonus point!). The staff was friendly as well. The Hotel is in a perfect location: close to the Beehive and in walking distance to the CBD, Te Papa, Cable Car etc. Can recommend!
James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor

O M G. The staff are so lovely, the room was perfect for our overnight stay. The ladies at the front desk were super busy when we checked in but still managed a smile for everyone. The bussiness however meant that we weren't told about the charge for parking. We were happy to pay because secure overnight parking is hard to come by, but it was a surprise when the gentleman checking us out advised of it. (It does say about the charge on the back of the paper that goes in your car windscreen, however after being mucked around by our initial hotel, we were in too much of a rush to get sorted for the concert we were attending that we didn't even think to read it)

A divine experience glamping in a vineyard! ❤️ Had the good fortune of stumbling across Martinborough on my way to Wellington. It's a quaint place with a variety of well appointed cabins with gas fireplaces and spa baths just outside the cute village of cafes, shops and wineries. Their team is kind and hardworking. 💯 Bring your own food since you'll have a kitchenette and food can be limited during the day since most places don't open until evening or the weekends for tourists. Also, recommend driving since it's both expensive and challenging to get around outside of the limited free shuttle. Bikes are available to rent for $40NZD 🤑🤑

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Ibis! It was close enough to walk wherever I wanted and safe! Taxis, etc right outside the front door. You can eat downstairs at the restaurant or have a cocktail! Would definitely stay again. Reservation desk and all employees were knowledgeable and friendly.
Naumi Studio Wellington
4.3/5119 Reviews
Wellington Central Business District
The room is very small, and it feels like it is only suitable for one person. It was really crowded for my husband and I to live in it, and we didn't have much luggage. It was very noisy in the middle of the night facing the street, and the most important thing is that there is no air conditioning! Fortunately, it was not very hot at night, otherwise it would be really unacceptable. At that time, we also considered whether to move to their hotel, but we only stayed for one night, so we thought about it and gave up. The bed is right there when you open the door ~ ah. The service is good, and the studio is definitely not suitable for honeymoon or something like that.
Travelodge Hotel Wellington

It's an older hotel and the halls smell a little funky but that quickly fades. The rooms show some signs of wear but are clean and have all the things you need. The bed was clean and comfy. The dining room was cozy and inviting. There seemed to be a little confusion in the kitchen, I know places are short staffed, but the food that arrived I really enjoyed. It is close to lots of things, I was on foot for this trip. The value was good for the price and I would stay here again.

My family and I had an excellent stay. The view was great, our room and our beds were so comfortable. There were plenty of towels for all of us to have showers. The only thing that could improve is the choice of food that is friendly for families, especially for children. But yes was an ideal one night stay.
