Travelers Reviews of Yamagata Prefecture Hotels

Shonai Hotel Suiden Terrasse

The hotel's wood-based decoration has a youthful feel. There are check-in booths everywhere, and the hot springs are very comfortable. However, the outdoor and indoor hot springs are separated. After bathing in one, you have to put your clothes back on and go to the other, which is a bit troublesome! Although the location is a bit remote, there are large supermarkets, drugstores and many restaurants about 10-15 minutes' drive away, making it suitable for self-driving travel. The breakfast ingredients are fresh and delicious. Overall, I like this hotel very much!

A wonderful place to stay in. The service was fantastic. The room was huge, much too large for just a solo traveler like me but it would have been perfect if I had brought my wife and child along. The onsen quality was great, albeit the fittings at the shower area were a bit old. The food was hands down amazing and featured great local produce. Honestly there was too much for one person to finish! What I especially liked was that they had a separate room on the first floor where if it was too early for you to check in, you could drop your luggage off, change, and then grab your gear and head to the slopes. Same thing if you intend to charge the slopes a bit more on your last day, just leave your stuff in the storage room, hit the slopes, come back and change out, hit the onsen for the last time, then go off. Definitely recommending this place to my friends visiting Zao.

The room was beautiful, with tatami, yukata, tabi, and a little bag with towels to take with you when you go to their proper outdoor onsen that's right across the street. The onsen has good amenities, has 2 baths one indoor that's around 42 - 45 degrees, and outdoor one that's usually cooler around 38 - 42. The best thing about that onsen is that there usually not many people there, often I was there alone. The breakfast was great too, there were at least around 20 - 30 different dishes/foods to choose from. The hotel also sells discounted ski passes, and has it's own ski/snowboard rental service for lower price than most of the rental services nearby (the snowboard was of great quality, the shoes not so much). When we checked out, the hotel arranged a van to take us to the bus terminal as well. Overall, one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at in Japan. 👌🏻

Even though we called the hotel stating that we would be late for the check-in and dinner as there was heavy snow in the highway. The staff postponed it to 730. However, the snow was so heavy, we lost our way in town and we arrived at 8:10. The staff saying that we were too late and rejected to provide any food for us. we had to walk downhill to the town to find our own dinner. however, on the second night of our stay, we noticed that the other guests were having dinner at 9:10 when we passed by the restaurant. We know that we were late, but I believed that hotel is in the hospitality industry, the staff have to be considerate to the guests. as we were not meant to be late on purpose, just because of the bad weather outside, we couldn’t drive fast. We were in the highway 2 1/2 hours without any food and drink in the hope of arriving on time.

Excellent stay in a nice clean single room on the 7th floor which also has an ice machine and vending machine and microwave on the same level. Other levels have coin operated laundry machines too. Very conveniently connected to the Yamagata Shinkansen station!!

There was a little bit of a problem with the pick-up at Zao Onsen Station at the beginning. The operator's English was not very good, but we were finally picked up! Then the hotel is relatively old, but very clean! On the last day when we were about to leave, we asked if we needed to pick up guests at the station, and then they just helped us to pick up at the station, so the round-trip pick-up service was very good!

Hotel service is really good! ! ! ! Suddenly it snowed that day and JR was out of service. I was3-4 hours later than expected, and I arrived at the JR station at 12 o'clock in the evening. As a result, the hotel reserved dinner for 6 of us, and waited for me at the JR station to send me by shuttle bus! ! ! ! When I arrived at the hotel for dinner, the rice was cooked per person, the rice and roast meat were hot, and the dessert was still in the refrigerator. It really surprised me! I highly recommend this hotel! The service at the hotel is really great!!!! That day, JR was suspended due to a sudden snowstorm, and it was near 12 o'clock that I arrived at JR station 3 ~ 4 hours later than scheduled. As a result, the hotel booked dinner for 6 of us and waited at the JR station before taking us to the shuttle bus! It's hot and the dessert is still in the refrigerator. It was a really nice surprise! Highly recommend this hotel! The hotel service is really excellent!!!! There was a sudden snowstorm that day and JR was suspended. I arrived 3-4 hours later than expected and arrived at the JR station almost 12pm. As a result, the hotel reserved dinner for the 6 of us, and waited for me at the JR station before taking me to the shuttle bus! It's hot, and the desserts are still in the refrigerator. I was really pleasantly surprised! I highly recommend this hotel!
Tendo Hotel

The Tendo Hotel is very good. When traveling in Yamagata Prefecture, although Yamagata Prefecture's Ginzan Hot Spring is more famous, it is difficult to book. One day I chose Tendo for the hot spring bath. The services and facilities of Tendo Hotel are very good, and the Yamagata beef sukiyaki for dinner is also delicious. The hotel is conveniently located. If you go to Yamagata Prefecture, in addition to the famous Ginzan Hot Spring and Zao, it is also recommended to go to Tendo to relax.

The hotel is in a great location, making it easy to find food nearby. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with many free amenities, including KOSÉ facial products. The breakfast was also delicious. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. We were a group of 14 people, and they had arranged our rooms ahead of time, so the check-in process was fast and efficient. Overall, I had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this hotel!
