"Great in every way, from the excellent location, just across from Utsunomiya Station, connected by an overpass, to the modern decor, the smiling front desk staff, the good security system, the spacious rooms, the comfortable seating areas, the beds larger than the Japanese standard, and the reasonably good breakfast. All staffs are very nice and attentive. I like the onsen on the top floor, spacious and nice, with two large pools both indoor and outdoor, see the view of the railway station, especially at night is beautiful. Last but not least, there are many cafe, restaurant, shopping zone and huge supermarket in the whole building. Recommended!"

The corner western/Japanese rooms are spacious with two western beds and tatami area, single japanese bath and shower area and separate toilet area, mini fridge, tv, sitting area overlooking the river and table with four chairs as well as a massage chair! Onsen area has both indoor and outdoor areas separate for men and women and a cold plunge as well as multiple hot baths. Minus half a star for low staffing in the store/cafe areas (often no staff member to be found when kakigori desired), no in house lunch option and overly fatty meat on the 3rd night dinner (breakfast and dinner were LARGE and BEAUTIFUL but perhaps heavy on the yuba. Also, shuttle to the train station is only at 10 and 11am and getting cabs is difficult. However, would overwhelmingly recommend Nikko Senhime Monogatari!"

"Really enjoyed my stay, lots of locals come here. Outdoor onsen was good, buffet food was decent too (favourite was the beef!). Extra points for the massage chair which was really a good relieve after a long day. Only drawback is pillow was too small and too soft which gave me neck aches the next morning. Location a little far out from town, would need a car to get here for convenience. But overall a great stay and will come recommend!"

"You can't enter the hotel until 3 pm, and you have to clean it up before that time. You can only check in at 3 pm before. This is the first time that I can’t enter the hotel if I arrive early! There are not many service staff, maybe they are too busy. However, the room was not bad. Dinner was delivered to the room, and a Chinese girl served us. It is rare to have a Chinese-speaking waiter in such a remote place. There is a self-service bar in the lobby, where you can take drinks at will."

"シルバーウィークに泊まりに来ました。
施設は年季を感じますが、建物の個性的な形やロビーの雰囲気がバブル時代の趣きを感じさせます。温泉はとても良かったのですが、建てられた当時の時代背景もあって、男性用のお風呂のほうが女性用より倍以上広く作っていてるので、女子校の部活の団体さんと宿泊が重なると、洗い場が足りなくて学生さん達がかわいそうでした。朝は男女の浴室を入れ替えてます。
ご飯はバイキングでしたが、他とは違ったものが食べられて良かったです。特別に餅つき体験があり、思いがけずつきたてのお餅が食べられたのも良かったです。朝食の焼きたてフレンチトーストと握りたておむすびのサービスも良かったです。
総じて、建物は古いながらもスタッフの方々が宿泊客を楽しませたいという気持ちが伝わる施設でした。"

"Environment: It's about a 10-minute walk from Kinugawa Station. There's a small hill where pushing luggage can be a bit difficult; you can contact the hotel for a shuttle service. Unlike most Kinugawa onsen ryokans, it's not located right on the river, which is a bit of a shame.
Cleanliness: Excellent.
Facilities: First, the large public baths have alternating men's and women's baths, each with its own unique features. There are sleeping baths, cream baths, and saunas. The overall design is very reasonable and simple. The rooms are large, easily accommodating at least four people, and include both Western-style beds and Japanese-style tatami mats. The rooms are large and quite new, without the usual musty smell of older hotels. The window view is just average, but it doesn't detract from the overall experience.
Dining: We had two meals during our stay. Dinner and breakfast were both deluxe kaiseki cuisine, which was delicious and photogenic—five-star quality. It ranks among the top three kaiseki meals we've had at onsen.
Service: Excellent. The Vietnamese lady who greeted us spoke Mandarin, and the restaurant manager, a lady from Guangdong, explained the dishes in great detail. Overall, the service was excellent."

"This is a Japanese-style hot spring inn in Xanadu Taoyuan. In the beautiful town in the mountains, the locals only speak Japanese and do not know other languages. So I can only communicate with hotel staff using body language and translation apps. When checking in, they were very warmly welcomed, offered hot tea, thoroughly introduced the hotel's facilities, services, hot springs, dinner and breakfast arrangements, and then led me to the room on the fourth floor. The room is very clean with private bathroom and toilet. The red suspension bridge downstairs can be viewed from the room terrace, the scenery is super beautiful! !! !! (Opening the glass door of the terrace requires skill and attention. If you do not know how to open it, you need to know the waiter. If you open the glass door at night, insects will fly in.) In addition, the hot spring bathing and cleaning space is sufficient and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast are not expensive ingredients, but there are many styles and delicious! !! !! Also, he is one of the few hotels in the area that can store luggage. At the same time, the JR Bus Terminal is in front, and there are other food markets in the vicinity, which is very convenient. The hotel is nestled in the mountains, but unfortunately, there's no shuttle service. If you take the public bus, you'll still have a bit of a walk to get there. Taking the inclined lift from the entrance to the lobby was a novel experience. Typically, hotels like this often have a lounge, but this one didn't. The room did come with two drip coffee bags and two types of snacks. The hot spring bath is a bit small, so you have to take turns. Other than that, everything else you'd expect was there. The meals were delicate and light, which suited our taste perfectly, though meat lovers might find them a bit too vegetarian. After dinner, we went for a stroll to the Frai-Aai Bridge and saw the impressive Red Ogre wielding a mace.

朝/夕食のバイキングは種類も多く、値段以上に豪華なステーキ、刺身、イクラ等は質が良いものが提供されており、とても良かった。
温泉の設備やホテルの設備はフロント以外がとても古く、温泉のシャワーは水圧が異常に弱い。
温泉の温度も入浴の時間帯によって、温水プールのような温度の時や、熱くて入れない程のこともある。
ただし、値段から考えると十分満足出来る内容であり、鬼怒川/日光エリアや、那須までのアクセスも良く、コストパフォーマンスを求めるならとても良いホテルかと思う。

CocozazaThe room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the view was great. The free cocktail and coffee services in the lobby were nice, as well as the free drink bar (including one beer per person) near the entrance to the hot spring. The paid massage service was also good. The meals were decent, especially the grilled beef, which simply melted in my mouth. The restaurant staff welcomed us warmly and provided friendly service.
Cons: The variety of hot springs was lacking, and the view from the hot springs was almost blocked, which was disappointing. The lockers for valuables used combination dials, and foreign guests often didn’t know how to use them, locking their room keys inside and struggling to reopen them. This was a major inconvenience. They should switch to a key-and-wristband system like other onsen hotels.
The room itself felt like an old, once-grand mansion that had seen better days. The furniture had many scratches, and the surfaces were worn and peeling. It made me think it must have been impressive in the past. Still, the room was definitely more spacious compared to other hotels.

The hotel is old so you definitely see how dated the facilities are but at the same time you know they are very well maintained. My room on the 3rd floor was spacious and had great view to Chuzenji lake. The sulfur onsen was great too. Staffs are professional, especially those in the dining room. They are vey attentive and quick to response to your needs.
The only downside is the location. If you want to find a lowkey hotel to relax in a remote area, Chuzenji is a perfect choice. But beware that there are only 3 shuttle bus a day. If you missed the last shuttle at 16h40 you will have to catch the last public Tobu bus at 18h and it takes like more than an hour to get to the hotel. No taxi, no uber available.

Wow! This place was fantastic! The staff are all courteous and professional. The hotel rooms are really clean, and the atmosphere is so relaxing and tranquil. I really enjoyed the nature vibes, and the river view by the window is perfect! The sound of the water flow and birds chirping made it to be a great night's sleep. The morning scenery is even better. I have no complaints. It was a great place to stop and rest and admire your surroundings. Take advantage of the swimming pool and the hot springs. (FYI: No tattoos allowed in case you have any, so you won't be alarmed when you see the sign.) Otherwise, everything was great about my stay! ☺️
