Woodford Bridge Country Club

I always try and book a pre Xmas stay somewhere, with my children . I came across Woodford Bridge on a booking site , and it seemed to offer great value for money so I thought why not. There are some positives and negatives which I ll list below. Arrived on a dark and gloomy Tues evening, the roads are not particularly great , potholes galore in the area. In the dark its quite scary roads too, in the middle of nowhere !! Check in was straightforward, nice friendly staff , however I found they have a tendency to talk amongst themselves and leave you waiting for too long before saying ” can I help you ”? Apartment was very clean , modern and warm. Incredibly happy with the size of it. Easy location to the games room for my boys, which they enjoyed very much, the pool table and table tennis. However the lighting is not great around the steps , and also the warning paint on edges of steps have worn off , so I had to be very careful walking back to apt in the dark. Used swimming facilities , nice , clean , quiet . The other facilities looked good . Went to the pub on site one night. Lovely little place , although totally devoid of atmosphere, hopefully better at weekend when live music on. They definitely need something. Prices of wine extortionate 175ml for 7.25 . I had to contact reception as the seal around the oven was coming off, did this in the morning before we went to atlantic village. On our return it was still hanging off, so had to contact reception again. Although I really liked the apt , there are a couple of improvements needed I feel. Firstly I could not find a chopping board or fish slice in the kitchen. As a single female with 2 children I also did nt feel safe as the apts can be accessed by anyone , there needs to be a key card reader on the entrance to the block , not just the apt door. Overall , it was a nice enough stay but I Don t think we d return. Probably much nicer in the Summer , and more going on in the area
Woodbury Park Hotel & Spa

Passage House Hotel
3.8/5101 Reviews
The hotel is in a very picturesque location, overlooking a lake. The bedrooms are large, with comfortable beds and prices for a stay are very reasonable. Having said that, the completely uncalled for surly, unfriendly and distinctly unhelpful of one member of staff at reception when we returned to the hotel after going to the Newton Abbot races soured the overnight stay for our group of 7. Firstly, after serving drinks to two members of our group, who arrived at the hotel ahead of the rest of us, he didn't allow them to take the drinks outside to a veranda area so they could have a smoke and could provide no good reason for refusing the polite request. Secondly, when the rest of us arrived at the hotel at around 11.30pm the bar was shut and he refused to serve us any drinks, even though we asked politely, merely wanting one more drink before going to bed. He was also curt, rude and distinctly unhelpful when we asked him to point us in the direction of our rooms, giving one word answers and seeming to regard us all as a hindrance to him. All in all, this experience made us regret our choice of hotel and we are disinclined to return to the hotel in future. A further gripe was that the breakfast service was poor and slow, with cooked breakfasts taking 25 minutes to arrive and many key items missing and not replenished unless guests specifically asked, including cups, tea bags, sugar and orange juice,
Hampton by Hilton Torquay
4.4/5120 Reviews
Visiting Torquay for the weekend as it is a place we had always wanted to see. The Hampton was a very convenient location. Set right in the heart of the town it couldn't have been better. Staff very friendly, and thanks to Valentian (I hope I have spelled your name correctly). He was exceptionally helpful and professional and sorted a lovely room for us both. The room had a partial view of the harbour and made such a difference to our enjoyment of the room. Rooms are great. Functional and comfortable with all that the traveller needs provided including hair conditioner and face flannels. The shower is both rain shower and hand held hose - always a bonus, though the shower 'door' is a little weird as there not being one, water gets over the floor if you're not careful. Very good night's sleep as the mattress is good quality and the pillows very comfortable, plus on the 4th floor,it was perfectly quiet. Breakfast on a Sunday morning was one of the best as excellent selection apart from one tiny niggle: it would have been nice to have natural yoghurt but supply chains in the UK are uncertain at present. There are two entrances to this hotel. One, the main entrance up the hill on Terrace Road but the other is at downtown street level and is accessed by either your room card or by pressing the buzzer and reception will click you in, and then take the lift up to the reception area.. Great stay and would certainly return.
Duke of Cornwall Hotel
4.5/5139 Reviews
We stayed for one night in August. The Duke of Cornwall is a historic Victorian building which looks amazing on the outside, it’s a very old hotel so has some querks. There was major external works so scaffolding in place and most of the building was covered in tarpaulin. We booked via a popular ”booking” site for £210 for a family room + our fur baby including breakfast. A Grand staircase leads up to all floors and these are well numbered and easy to find rooms. You can take the lift if you prefer but it is very small and a bit claustrophobic. We were in Room 410 – the room itself was huge, bedroom and bathroom, whilst huge, the room was bit 'tired' but very clean & a modernised bathroom. The bed was VERY comfy and we had a good night’s sleep. Hairdryer supplied in room – handy although it was a typical travel hairdryer so don’t expect too much. The back of the hotel is very different to the front, a bit run-down and in desperate need of sprucing up! Car parking - small car park and situated at the back of the building, with a walkway from the car park leading into the hotel and then down one floor to reception to check in. Bar area = modernised with original features and prices were reasonable. We did request a snack at about 8:30ish and was told to wait as kitchen was still open but no one came to take order - the hotel information stated the restaurant served meals from 7pm until 9:30pm daily so we were a little disappointed that we couldn’t have anything. Breakfast: was served in the bar area as we had taken our fur baby down with us. There was a choice of croissants, cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc. or cooked selection. We opted for bacon, sausage, scrambled egg and mushrooms all ordered from our table and was brought out within 5 minutes – staff were really friendly and attentive. Although the breakfast was fine it seemed expensive for the 3 of us as was £54.00. We had mixed feelings about our stay. The hotel itself is very grand in the public areas but the corridors and rooms need some attention to bring them back up to the grandeur they once were – we would stay again if rooms had an upgrade to match the rest of the hotel.
Exeter Court Hotel

Arriving late in the evening, you could be easily mistaken in thinking it’s more like a motel or truck stop. However, this is definitely not so. In the morning you’re greeted warmly by friendly staff like Raj and Grant who simply can’t do enough. Breakfast is full English, toast, porridge, fresh fruit salad. Plenty of tea and coffee. We didn’t always need cleaners in our room, but when we did, not only did they tidy our bed but took the time to fold our personal clothing on the bed so it looked cared for - just like a touch of home! The room was clean and spotless. It’s a great hotel with a vibrant mix of staff. We didn’t use the hotel for evening meals but it seems to be very popular as it is for conferences and weddings. We’d definitely come back again.
Copthorne Hotel Plymouth

Stayed for 12 nights as on a two week training course in Plymouth, nice comfortable room, all amenities available hot and cold drinks (cold kept in room fridge, found the fridge handy to store extra milk!) as not keen on the cartons of milk nice hot shower and bath however shower does take a while to warm up bed and towels changed daily, hotel good location and easy access to all Plymouth attractions within walking distance beware if on foot of the hills! as the hotel is at the top of a hill, good selection at breakfast and nice friendly staff and good to see the hotel manager around the hotel greeting guests at breakfast, also nice to get a complimentary drinks voucher a nice touch too. and a nice fitness suite for guests to use,a few minor issues slight peel on wallpaper in room, warm room had to keep fan on or open window also as light sleeper and at back of hotel could hear students in the student flats opposite and the seagulls flying around all night

Leonardo Hotel Exeter
4.1/5126 Reviews
Having stayed at the Jury's Inn chain of hotels previously in other cities we decided to stay at the hotel when we visited Exeter. The hotel enjoys a great location and the facilities are ok but unfortunately the servicing leaves a lot to be desired. There is no mention of this anywhere on their website and you are not told at any stage when you book and you only find out once you have paid and visit your room. On entering your room you find a nicely laminated note from the management advising you that your rooms will not be serviced on short stays. The management are using the excuse of the Covid pandemic to save costs and avoid doing your beds, emptying your bins, changing your towels, replenishing your toilet paper and the complimentary tea/ coffee. This is now only provided on request. My previous experience of this chain of hotels was that you also had a small fridge in the room and you were provided with complimentary bottles of water, this is no longer the case. Effectively the client experience has been watered down yet the prices remain the same. The client experience received from the staff was inconsistent, some were great others were very unhelpful. The hotel is not cheap and based on their current offering way overpriced.
Trecarn Hotel
4/532 Reviews
I am writing this review on behalf of my parents who have just stayed at the Trecarn through Caledonia Travel - and theyve had a fabulous time. Yes the hotel needs a little updating in places but they are getting back on their feet from suffering 2years of covid. For my parents - the staff were excellent and the food was excellent (buffet style for which you could eat has much as you wanted and 4free drinks per person). The evening entertainment was very good and they enjoyed the bingo also. Their Caledonia Drivers were excellent and all the trips were also thoroughly enjoyed. Overall a great holiday
