Romantic Hotels in Catalonia, Spain

"We spent a weekend at Aiguablava Parador in Begur. We were a party of four people. The good points were the location, the rooms (comfortable beds, fabulous sea view, spacious rooms, nice amenities) the hotel is very spacious and tastefully decorated. The swimming pool, at the top end of the cliff, although not massive, is large enough and with fantastic views of the area. A very privileged position with views of Aiguablava cove and a private path down to the cove. Breakfast was varied and good quality in general and served in the breakfast room with gorgeous views. Freshly squeezed fruit juice and good quality coffee. The negatives were the check in experience, too long and with an inexperienced receptionist who lacked aptitude in the treatment of experienced travelers/customers and couldn’t get my name right. There was a general lack of coordination between departments (reception and restaurant) our evening meal reservation was not communicated to the restaurant either of the two days and my name was wrong in all departments from beginning to end even though the receptionist had access to my ID card and the online booking form. The evening meals were sub standard. Generally unpleasant food, tasteless fish and a dirty lukewarm brown sauce, packet custard-based deserts. Brick sized chunks of melon as fruit salad. Some dishes were inedible. A very limited wine list and very expensive wines. The service in the restaurant varied from pleasant to inappropriate with some comments from waiting staff demonstrating their inexperience and unsuitability to work in a hotel of this category, even though they were pleasant and kind at all times. On a final note, I requested by telephone if it would be possible to have some candles on a desert on our final evening as we were celebrating my husband’s 60th birthday. The receptionist said it would be no problem but it was not communicated to the restaurant and forgotten. As there had been so many hiccups with communication in general I didn’t bother to even try to remind them. "

"The Nobu Hotel is excellent! The rooms are spacious, and the sofa is beautiful and stylish, showing great design. The bathroom has double sinks and a well-planned layout. The distant views are also very nice. There's a subway station within a 5-minute walk, making transportation very convenient. A large supermarket is right next door, less than 2 minutes away, so you can easily get bread, milk, and fruit for breakfast. The area feels safe, making it a great choice for travelers!"

"The room was spacious, relatively clean, and close to the train station. However, when I inquired with one of the reception staff, they said that free bottled water would be provided every day, but it was only provided on the first day. So I asked how much it cost, and they said it was 1.5 euros for 500ml. I went to a nearby supermarket where they were selling the same volume of water for 0.25 to 0.3 euros, so I bought it there."

"A short stay for of 2 days was booked with Triip.com for one adult and 2 children under 10, to join us who were booked in a day earlier for three days. Our three day booking was direct with the hotel, half board. The hotel is marked 'adults recommended' and they sure discourage children, by seeking to charge per occupancy rather than simply on a cost per room. The Trip site quite fairly offered the room at the rate for two adults, with children under 12 free, so this is what was paid. Half board was added but at the rate for two adults, which would be greater than the actual hotel rate for one adult and two children, but I was happy to have reserved restaurant secured. Things got messy at check in, the hotel insisting that the room was occupied by three 'persons' as they put it and should therefore be 50% extra, though the room was the same type as the twin we had for two adults. The Hotel also insisted that only breakfast was provided, and tried to argue that the B2B rate from the third party (Trip) was insufficient. I politely pointed out that the discounts provided to third party agents was no concern of the customer, and referred to my booking voucher which clearly stated I had booked a twin room, into which was going 1 adult, two very small children, and that breakfast and dinner was paid for, with the rate for 1 adult being greater than twice the local charge for a child. They were impossible to deal with, and I left the reception angry and upset. I contacted the Trip representative and by that evening it was sorted. Full marks to Trip, zero to the hotel. As for our stay, the hotel is excellent, but with room to improve. Dinner in the Buffet only commences at 8.00, resulting in quite the bunfight if the restaurant is busy. It was on that Thursday, a national holiday, and it was impossible to order wine and beverages after we seated, with a single service person taking orders. We ate our food dry, and finally placed an order for wine and water while eating dessert, some 40 minutes after seating. The same bottleneck occurred the next morning at breakfast, with the four snail paced Nespresso machines totally incapable of dealing with the coffee demands. Worse, all 4 machines overheated and went into 'service mode'. Worse again, these obviously unsuitable barista machines were the only source of hot water for Tea or infusions, but with no seperate hot water dispenser faucet. You had to stand for almost 2 minutes while the machine slowly dispensed through the coffee outlet, a single mug of hot water, to the frustration of the queue behind. This needs sorting, it took ages to get a breakfast beverage every morning, and on the second day I had to return 4 floors to my room and fill my cup from the in room Nespresso maker. I'd advise to bring a travel kettle with you. Otherwise, a fine hotel, but the restaurant problems and discriminatory pricing for children are an issue, so not a hotel for children."

"Overall, I enjoyed my stay at your hotel. The staff was friendly, the location was excellent, and the breakfasts were very filling and varied. I was a little disappointed with the tired-looking room, especially in the bathroom, where the tiles had been inexplicably painted over"

"The location was excellent, being close to the Dalí Museum, and the hotel itself was superb – easily the best we stayed at during our entire trip to Spain and Portugal. The serene interior design and the exquisite paintings adorning the walls all contributed to a sophisticated ambiance, truly showcasing the hotel's impeccable taste. Our room was also very spacious, ensuring a wonderfully comfortable stay."

"Overall, I was a bit disappointed with this hotel. For a four-star establishment, I expected more. Some areas of the hotel seem a bit dated, giving it the impression of a package tour hotel rather than a modern city hotel. The pool area is decent, but nothing special. The artificial turf doesn't look particularly high-quality, and the pool's atmosphere didn't win me over. Guests often sit in the water with cocktails, which doesn't exactly contribute to a relaxed ambiance. The lobby and lounge also feel rather cold and uninviting. While there is a bar, it unfortunately lacks a genuine bar atmosphere or coziness. I believe there's significant room for improvement here. The room itself was tidy, but the refrigerator could be a bit larger. It would be practical if it could accommodate ice or larger drinks. On the positive side, I'd like to highlight the beds – they were really comfortable and ensured a good night's sleep. One point that particularly bothered me: the hotel descriptions barely mention that it's located directly next to a highway or a highway exit. Vehicles pass practically right by the hotel. This is less noticeable on weekends, but during the week, the traffic is clearly audible. I found the traffic noise particularly disturbing when having breakfast outdoors. Ultimately, I made the best of my stay and had a pleasant time. Nevertheless, I wouldn't classify this hotel as a particularly high-quality four-star establishment, and I would likely choose a different accommodation for my next visit to Barcelona. Overall, it was a solid, but rather average experience."

"The room is wide, clean and there are a few simple things provided. The location is very pretty but a little bit far on foot from public transport. Now, the bathroom is only separated from the room by a blind, through which you can see everything from the side. This leaves no place for privacy and is very uncomfortable. Furthermore, it seems to me that we were placed in some kind of suit, where only a door was separating us from another room. Amazing choice of isolation when your neighbours decide to have a very long and loud conversation at 3am in the morning, and you can hear everything. I wouldn't recommend for the price that only one night costed us."

"A fantastic 4-star hotel! While not in the city center, it's incredibly convenient for commuting, with bus and metro stations nearby. The hotel's facilities are very modern, the staff provides excellent service, and the environment is lovely. On the first day, we received complimentary welcome mineral water and two drink vouchers. The outdoor swimming pool is a good size – not too big, not too small – perfect for a quick workout during your trip. I highly recommend staying at this hotel when you visit Barcelona! 🏨"
