Top rated hotels in Shanxi

Dragon Gate Guesthouse
4.8/5947 Reviews
Inside Pingyao Ancient City
Fantastic ancient Chinese lodging with modern amenities. You get the chance to sleep on a Luohan bed. The room is a suite! Within Pingyao walled city, it was easy to go to visit the sites. The lady owner gave me a map. Even though I speak no Chinese and they speak no English, we were able to communicate using a translator app. She recommended a restaurant when I asked. They made the utmost effort to make your stay enjoyable. The owner took me to the railway station when I left. P.S. Best to download MAPS.ME as it will work offline. Google Maps does not work in China. The taxi will drop you outside the city wall and you can ride the shuttle to the hotel. Make sure you got the Chinese address. Also same possible, install the Wechat app as it is used widely in China - you text in English they translate to Chinese and vice versa.
Shanxi Hotel
4.6/53573 Reviews
Liuxiang Commercial Area
Shanxi Hotel must be given a five-star rating. We arrived very late at night, and the hotel was already lit. The courtyard was ancient and the hotel lobby was magnificent. The service staff checked in very efficiently and quickly, and the service attitude was very excellent. The breakfast and Chinese buffet was very high-end, and the food and drink met the tastes of all parts of the north and south. It is very close to various attractions. We strolled to the bell tower. On one side of the hotel, you can enter Wenying Park, where you can see the scene of Shanxi people exercising and relaxing. The hotel helped to take the luggage to the car after checking out, and the service was thoughtful. The important point is that we lived on the second floor and it was very quiet, without any noisy sounds, and the sound insulation was very good. The shower was a little smaller, but you can call the front desk. It was too cold. It rained on the day we came, and we didn’t pay much attention to bathing, so we just took a shower. Satisfied, and will tell friends who come to Taiyuan to choose Shanxi Hotel first.
Pingyao Chengjia Old Home Hotel (Rishengchang Branch)
4.7/5759 Reviews
Inside Pingyao Ancient City
Chengjia Old Home is a typical Shanxi house style, with a quiet environment amidst the hustle and bustle, quiet but not far from the commercial street. The room is carefully decorated and clean. The service is responsive and considerate, and the pick-up and drop-off services are in place. A very satisfying stay experience. The only thing that needs improvement is that the breakfast can have more variety.
Pingyao Dumenjiadi Inn

Inside Pingyao Ancient City
The hotel is really nice and in the authentic style of Pingyao. It is quite closed from the east gate and from the ancient city center. The owner is really friendly, speaks good English and is doing everything to make you enjoy your stay. He did explained very well all the activity and provide help if needed. The room is clean and we didn't care about the size as we were out all day. If I have to suggest one thing, it will be to have bigger mattresses as they are quite hard but it's a personal preference.
Parkview Hotel
4.8/52912 Reviews
Yingze Commercial Area
The hotel is magnificent and luxuriously decorated, and is highly praised. It has first-class facilities and services. It has an excellent location. The rooms are spacious, bright, clean, and well-equipped with high-quality supplies. On the day of check-in, there are welcome fruits. Desserts are also delivered in the evening. The doorman and front desk service are warm and thoughtful, and greet you with a smile. The breakfast has an elegant environment and rich varieties. The Chinese and Western food tastes pure and distinctive. The restaurant service staff is proactive and enthusiastic. Lunch and dinner can meet customer needs. There is a buffet on the first floor; a la carte on the third floor; and Japanese cuisine on the 4th and 6th floors. As a tourist in Beijing, I am deeply impressed and feel good.
Renyi Inn
4.8/5927 Reviews
Ancient City Tourist Cultural Area
It's just across the street from Huayan Temple. Go there when it opens at 8am to avoid tour groups and large crowds. The room is large, and the upstairs is quiet, clean, and thoughtfully provides disposable bath towels and toilet seats, as well as body lotion and facial cleanser. The proprietress is kind and friendly. Datong is not cold at the end of October. Come and experience the charm of ancient buildings in Shanxi! A small suggestion, it would be more convenient to install a full-length mirror behind the door.
Pingyaoxing Hotel
4.6/51237 Reviews
Inside Pingyao Ancient City
Living in the ancient city, it is very quiet to sleep at night. The courtyard is very large, it is a good place to take travel photos, and any photo you take is a blockbuster. The boss is very nice, and the car pick-up and drop-off is really good. It feels like home. Breakfast is provided
Great Palace Hotel

Ancient City Tourist Cultural Area
I loved this hotel. It has an old-fashioned charm that made me feel right at home. My room was very large, comfortable, and well-equipped. All of the staff and service people were extremely courteous from start to finish. The Chinese restaurant on the 7th floor has a great choice of dishes! Highly recommended, and excellent value for money. A great base for exploring the sights around Datong.
Wutaishan Yunfeng Hotel (Zhenrong Temple Branch)
4.4/5280 Reviews
West Line/Longquan Temple
The hotel is very easy to find in the scenic area. The decoration is more Chinese-style antique, and the cleaning is very clean. The 3-person room we booked is quite big. The tatami is a family of four (children are no more than 10 years old) and it is not crowded, because the geographical environment features no air conditioning. We stayed at night on National Day and it was cooler. There was electric heating.
Pingyao Houdefu Inn
4.9/5143 Reviews
Inside Pingyao Ancient City
The inn is about ten meters away from the busiest street in the ancient town. Turn left and you will see the ancient street. The inn has a unique environment with the characteristic elements of the ancient town. The room is very clean and soundproof. You can have a good sleep after a day of strolling. The environment in the inn is also very good, very photogenic! The boss is very nice. After booking, add the contact information to answer various questions. The inn also has a pick-up service. In particular, the vinegar of the boss's house is very good. Friends who stay in the hotel must buy some to bring to family and friends, and the feedback from friends is also good👍!
