Cool property! It’s an old building, so insulation is not existing, so keeping the climate nice it’s a bit of a balance. But the stay is absolutely unique and the location could not be better. Yes, you don’t have a direct view on the waterfall, but you don’t need that when you are in this town. You get it from all the restaurants and from the walking around. The view from this hotel is also absolutely fantastic, to the bridge and to the village. The rooms are spacious and the staff is very nice. We will come back.

Zhangjiajie Idyllic Pondside Timber Lodge feels like a quiet retreat designed for people who want to slow down and reconnect with nature. From the moment you arrive, the setting stands out—lush gardens spread across the property, carefully maintained yet still natural enough to feel authentic. Walking paths wind through greenery, leading you past tranquil ponds where the water reflects the surrounding trees and sky. It’s the kind of place where even a short stroll becomes part of the experience.
The ponds are a highlight. They’re not just decorative; they create a calming atmosphere that carries throughout the lodge. Sitting by the water in the early morning or at sunset is especially memorable, with only the sounds of birds and the occasional ripple breaking the silence.
The rooms continue that same sense of comfort and simplicity. Built with timber elements, they feel warm and grounded rather than overly polished. Inside, everything is thoughtfully arranged—clean, spacious, and equipped with the essentials for a relaxing stay. Large windows often bring in views of the gardens or ponds, making it easy to feel connected to the outdoors even when you’re inside.
The service was outstanding. All my needs and questions were answered promptly.
What really defines the lodge is its balance: it offers comfort without losing its natural charm. It’s not trying to be flashy or luxurious in a conventional sense—instead, it succeeds by creating a peaceful environment where the surroundings take center stage.
Overall, Zhangjiajie Idyllic Pondside Timber Lodge is ideal for travelers looking for a calm, nature-focused stay. Between the gardens, the serene ponds, and the cozy rooms, it provides a refreshing break from busier, more commercial accommodations.

Guest UserWe booked this property through Trip.com because it was advertised as Avatar Mountain Resort, with promotional photos and social media posts showcasing spectacular mountain views. Unfortunately, our experience was quite different.
The biggest issue was simply finding the hotel. None of the major local apps, including Amap and Didi, recognized the property as “Avatar Mountain Resort.” After arriving at the airport, we had to contact the hotel directly. They asked us to connect via WeChat and sent us the address in Chinese. Only then did Amap and Didi recognize the location under the name “Zhangjiajie Zhishe, Zili Holiday Minsu.” We also noticed another name displayed at the building entrance: “Z Plus Resort Inn.” Having three different names for the same property was extremely confusing and made the arrival unnecessarily stressful.
The second and most disappointing issue was the misleading advertising. The stunning mountain view shown on Trip.com and the hotel’s Instagram page was nowhere to be found from our room or the property. The only view available was a distant view of mountain ranges shared with neighboring rooms. The advertised “Avatar Mountain” scenery simply did not exist from this hotel. This felt like a significant misrepresentation and was the main reason we chose to book this property.
Breakfast was another letdown. We stayed for three nights, and the breakfast was exactly the same every morning with very limited variety. On one morning, we even found blue mold growing on the bread, which was unacceptable. After that, we only felt comfortable eating the freshly made omelette.
That said, there were some positives. The hotel’s location is excellent, only about a five-minute walk from the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Middle Gate. From there, it’s roughly a 12-minute shuttle bus ride to the Bailong Elevator, making it very convenient for exploring the park.
The staff also deserve recognition. The front desk and concierge team were friendly, responsive, and genuinely helpful. They assisted us with purchasing park tickets, planning our itinerary, and answering our questions throughout our stay. Last but not the least, the lady outside the resort who was always selling cucumbers, hiking sticks, or raincoats. No matter the weather or the time of day, she always greeted everyone with a warm smile. It was a small gesture, but it added a genuine touch of kindness .
Overall, while the location and staff were excellent, the misleading marketing about the view, the confusing hotel identity, and the poor breakfast experience significantly affected our stay. I hope Trip.com and the property update their listing to accurately represent what guests can actually expect. Travelers should not book this hotel expecting the iconic “Avatar Mountain” views shown in the advertisements. Convenience to Zhangjiajie is a plus for this location for sure though

Yijialaoxiao❤guangchiThe hotel is clean and tidy, and the service is excellent. We stayed for two nights. The location is great, not far from the ancient city. It's an easy walk to Hongqiao, the North Gate Pier, and Shen Congwen's Former Residence, making it convenient for visiting all the main attractions. It's quiet yet convenient, and there's a local market nearby where you can find delicious cured meat and kiwi fruit. Plus, there's a large parking lot right in front of the hotel, which is very friendly for those traveling by car.

Guest UserThe environment here is fantastic, with fresh air and a great location that's convenient for all the attractions, whether you're taking the bus or a Didi. We drove ourselves, and there were plenty of charging stations and parking spots available. The front desk staff were very professional and handled our check-in quickly.

SerenaStevenWe enjoyed staying here. They could help us with booking passes for the Avatar Mountains (Zhangjiajie National Park) and the Tianmen cave on Tianzi Mountain. They speak good english and cared to make sure we were settled in our room, very helpful. The room was very big clean, tidy and looked after, modern castle style. Great views of the Mountains from the balcony. We could do our own laundry free - two washers, two dryers that work very well. Easy to get to places from here. We took Didi (Uber) to Avatar Mountains East Gate entrance (45mins-1hr), cheap as chips to us ($25 NZD for a two hour trip). Easy to catch Didi back from there or anywhere! Using your phone App only, or you may get ripped off by taxis parked there. Highly recommend staying here.

alvinli818Excellent value-for-money hotel, stayed for 4 days!
Location: Close to Tianmen Mountain!
Room: The hotel's design incorporates raw wood. There are many room types, and most rooms have a balcony or a courtyard! My room was the largest, truly a fantastic deal! It had a living room, a bedroom, and a courtyard.
Host (Service): This B&B is run by a young couple (Xiao Liu). Their service is incredibly personal and full of passion. During our four-day stay, they proactively planned our entire itinerary for us. Based on the weather, they suggested where we should go and then helped us book all our tickets! Even after we checked out and moved to Wulingyuan, they continued to help us book tickets for attractions there!
Food: Breakfast was included in the room rate. The hostess makes delicious Hunan rice noodles (after eating it one day, I told her I wanted to eat it every day for breakfast!). There was also toast, many pastries, and fruits. It's worth mentioning that while many B&Bs use instant coffee, this one uses coffee beans to make coffee. In Zhangjiajie, a rich and delicious breakfast is really important because it marks the start of a lot of walking!

This guesthouse boasts absolutely stunning views and a beautiful, serene, and comfortable environment – truly on par with high-end luxury lodges abroad, but without the exorbitant price tag. The restaurant is also fantastic; I ate there for three days straight because the food was so good I didn't want to eat anywhere else. What really sets them apart, though, is their service. It's not the rigid, formal service you find at a five-star hotel; instead, it's incredibly thoughtful and attentive, always putting the guest's needs first. For example, if we ordered too much food, the restaurant would even proactively help us figure out how to save it for our next meal. Every other service detail was just as impressive – any request was met with a helpful response. It was such a comfortable and personalized experience. Getting to the West Gate of the Forest Park from here is also very convenient, as the guesthouse offers pick-up and drop-off services. They also provide incredibly detailed and professional advice based on your itinerary, making it completely stress-free for first-time visitors. I will definitely be back!

WailiwangStaying at Wotianju this trip was a delightful surprise! It's incredibly close to all the attractions, basically within ten minutes. We drove there ourselves, and the hotel itself is unbelievably huge – you even need to drive to get around inside! The front desk also gave us a free room upgrade, which made us really not want to leave. The hotel pays attention to details everywhere: the butler service is super responsive and on-call, the welcome fruit was chilled, and even a simple blanched lettuce at the Chinese restaurant was delicious. You can tell the chef really knows their stuff – it was fresh and not greasy. You could easily just stay at the hotel for all your eating, drinking, and entertainment needs. There's a huge lawn, and reading a book and having tea by the river under the trees was just incredibly relaxing; time just seemed to slow down. After dinner, we'd go swimming and then soak in the hot springs. Honestly, even though it's an outdoor hot spring, the cleanliness was excellent. Back where we're from, a hot spring of this quality for two people would cost about the same as a night's stay! I forgot my facial cleanser when we left, and the butler even arranged for SF Express to send it home – absolutely perfect! You can tell the owner put a lot of effort into the hotel's construction, design, and staff management. I would definitely come back to Zhangjiajie just for this hotel again. A hundred points!
