Male, the capital of the archipelago nation of the Maldives, is approximately 1.9 kilometers long and 1.3 kilometers wide, making it one of the smallest capital cities in the world. While not a must-see on a Maldives tour, it's a 5-minute ferry ride from the airport island to Male Island (15 Rufiyaa/1 AUD). From the same pier, you can take a public ferry to inhabited islands. Highly recommend allocating half a day here; you can easily explore the island at your leisure. See map page 18 for details. 🗺Attractions ✔ Muliaage (Presidential Palace): Passed by, only exterior view. ✔ Friday Mosque: A white mosque with a golden dome. ✔ Republic Square: Under maintenance, only exterior view. ✔ National Museum: Admission fee, only exterior view. ✔ Fish Market: Lots of large mackerel; in the evening, many rays come to the beach to feed. ✔ Local Market: Several restaurants near the fish market offer lively local cuisine. ✔ King Salman Mosque (Blue Dome Mosque). ✔ Chinese Embassy: The unassuming entrance is easily recognizable from afar. ✔ Sinamale Bridge (China-Maldives Friendship Bridge) : The cross-sea bridge connecting the airport was built with our aid 👍🏻 My country is amazing! ✔ Beach: Very weather-dependent, the seaside road has multiple public swimming pools, beaches, and many fishermen. 🍜 Food ✔ Seagull Cafe House: A popular dessert restaurant for casual dining, no air conditioning but has Wi-Fi, their signature ice cream has a lot of artificial flavoring and coloring. ✔ Citron by Lemongrass: A sea-view restaurant next to the public pier, no air conditioning or Wi-Fi, à la carte or buffet available. ✔ Local Time: A popular spot for locals, with air conditioning and Wi-Fi 👍 Highly recommended! ✔ Bakers Fantasy: A bakery popular with locals, their blueberry cheesecake is good. ✔ Supermarket: My favorite place. ✔ La Vera Pizzeria: A popular, highly-rated Western-style pizzeria. 🎁 Souvenir Shop ✔ Oevaali Art Shop : Trendy manta ray necklace 200+ RMB 💱Currency Exchange 1 USD ≈ 19.5-20.5 RAFY (October 2025) The exchange rate in Malé city is better than at the airport. Using local currency is more cost-effective than USD. ATARAXIA had the best exchange rate among several exchange shops and understood the needs of Chinese tourists who like to take photos. The staff automatically provided different denominations of RAFY, including the trendy whale shark coin. Any unused RAFY can be exchanged back to USD at the Malé pier or airport. 🧳Luggage Storage ①Airport: Storage starts at 7 USD per piece ②Restaurants: Restaurants near the public pier usually store luggage for 1-2 hours. ③Malé Island Hotels: Suitable for those planning to stay overnight on the island; hotels are not cheap. #VisaFreeCountriesForSpontaneousTrips #RelaxingDestination #CityCultureNotes #CityCulture #LocalFood
Male, Maldives | A dreamy island adventure✨ My dears👋 Although the Spring Festival holiday is over, is your heart still "itching" to go out and play? If so, come with me to Male, Maldives. It is simply a paradise on earth, with super beautiful sea views and countless delicacies. It will definitely make you spend a super unforgettable time! 🏝️Scenic spot check-in - Male Beach: As soon as I got off the plane, the tropical atmosphere that hit me instantly grabbed me🌴 The water at Male Beach is as blue as a gem, clear to the bottom, and you can see small fish swimming around under the water. The sand on the beach is fine and soft. Stepping on it barefoot is like stepping on cotton candy, which is super comfortable. Here, you can sunbathe, walk on the waves, pick up shells, and do whatever you want. Any casual shot is a blockbuster that can dominate the circle of friends! - Male Marine Reserve: The paradise for diving enthusiasts is here! Put on diving gear and dive into the sea, as if you have entered a dreamy underwater world🐠 Colorful coral reefs, various tropical fish, and super cute turtles are all saying hi to you enthusiastically! It doesn’t matter if you are not good at diving, snorkeling can also feast your eyes and feel the magic of the sea. - Male Fish Market: This place is full of fireworks🎇 As soon as you enter the fish market, you can see a variety of freshly caught sea fish, as well as many strange seafood that you can’t name. Listening to the locals bargaining and feeling their pace of life is really interesting! Here, you can also buy freshly baked fried fish cakes, which are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Take a bite, and the delicious fish meat and crispy skin collide in your mouth, which is awesome! 🍱 Food exploration - Citron: This is a favorite of the locals! The restaurant is in a great location, with a view of the cross-sea bridge and the airport. It's so comfortable to enjoy the beautiful scenery while enjoying the food. I strongly recommend their sweet and spicy sauce crispy fried whole fish. The fish is fried golden and crispy, and coated with a special sweet and spicy sauce. It is sweet and spicy, and the spicy taste is full of fish. After a bite, the sense of happiness is directly full! - Sala Thai: Thai food is definitely not to be missed! As soon as you enter the store, the rich Thai style hits you. Their Tom Yum Goong soup tastes authentic, sour and spicy, and the shrimps and mushrooms in it are super large. A mouthful of soup, a mouthful of ingredients, and the whole person is transparent after drinking it. The green curry chicken is also very good. The chicken is tender and wrapped in rich curry. With fragrant rice, I can show off three bowls! It's just a little expensive, but for this delicious food, it's worth it! - Magukothu: If you want to experience authentic Maldivian local snacks, come to this one! Most of the people who come here to eat are locals. You must try Hedika, which is a kind of pastry made of eggs and noodles, wrapped with beef or fish fillings, and then fried with breadcrumbs. It has a rich taste, crispy and delicious. You can't stop eating one after another. There is also their coconut milk curry, which perfectly blends the rich aroma of coconut milk and curry. It is so delicious that you can't stop eating it! 🚗Transportation Guide - It is very cost-effective to take the public ferry from the airport to the city of Male, only 15 Rufiyaa or 1 US dollar, but remember to prepare change in advance, otherwise it will be troublesome to change. - If you are strolling in the city of Male, it is very convenient to rent an electric car. You can go wherever you want, and you can stop at any time to enjoy the scenery on the roadside and experience the local customs. 💡Intimate tips - Maldives is a Muslim country, so you must respect the local religious customs. For example, ladies should not wear off-shoulder clothes with suspenders on the inhabited islands, nor should they wear bikinis to swim or snorkel in the sea, otherwise it will be very embarrassing😅 - The sun here is super warm, so sun protection must be done well! Sunscreen, sun hats, sunglasses, all arranged, otherwise you will be tanned into a "little black man" in minutes. - The tap water in the hotel cannot be drunk directly, you have to buy mineral water. Although the price is a little expensive, for the sake of health, you should bear it~ My dears, Male, Maldives is really fun, and there are so many delicious foods.
