His former residence is in Guoyuan Village, Napeng Township, Yangjiang. Walking through the country roads in the village, we saw murals on many houses, as well as Guancun Primary School, which was inscribed by Mr. Guan Shanyue himself, and was also his alma mater. Later, he was appreciated by Mr. Gao Jianfu, the main founder of the Lingnan School of Painting, who invited him to the Chunshui Painting Academy for free and became Gao's disciple. In 1946, he became a professor and director of the Chinese painting department of Guangzhou Municipal Art College. After liberation, he served successively as professor and deputy director of the Fine Arts Department of South China People's Art School, professor and vice president of Central South Art College, and vice president and director of the Chinese Painting Department of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. The most famous work is "Such a Beautiful Countryside" which was a collaboration between Guan Shanyue and Fu Baoshi. Fu Baoshi painted the mountains, rivers and waterfalls in the distance, while Guan Shanyue made use of the advantages of the Lingnan School of Painting to paint the peaks with grass and trees nearby. Although the two have different painting styles, they are well integrated into one painting. They hid the four seasons of the year in one painting and revised the draft many times in order to show the beautiful mountains and rivers of China and the scenery of the four seasons.
