According to legend, during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, Huang Tianba, who was feared by the southern provinces, had a duel with the famous bandit Jiuhua Niangniang in the northern part of the Jimingyi area, and held a banquet in Chaoyanglou to reward his brothers. The prosperity of Chaoyanglou's business also benefited from the visit of Empress Dowager Cixi of the Qing Dynasty. In the sixth month of the lunar calendar in the 26th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu (1900 AD), due to the invasion of the Eight-Power Allied Forces, Empress Dowager Cixi, Emperor Guangxu and members of the royal family, fled to Xi'an in a hurry. They fled westwards through Xiahuayuan Jimingyi and arrived in Xuanhua, where they stayed at Shanggu Public Office, which was adjacent to Chaoyang Tower. The elderly Empress Dowager Cixi was anxious, exhausted, and hungry. After arriving in Xuanhua, she stayed at Shanggu Public Office for three days, with Chaoyang Tower providing meals for every meal. In particular, after eating shabu-shabu mutton, she ate a large piece of watermelon from Liujiayao. After eating a full meal, she ventilated herself, and the stagnation of anger and stagnation over the past few days was discharged. The Empress Dowager praised her repeatedly. After relaxing, Cixi played tricks and ordered Guangxu to issue the "Repentance Edict" to the whole country. At this time, the Eight-Power Allied Forces had already passed through Juyongguan and approached Xiahuayuan after burning, killing and looting in the capital, and Cixi and her entourage had no choice but to continue to flee westward... Influenced by the feudal society's "male superiority and female inferiority" ideology, Chaoyanglou initially stipulated that women were prohibited from dining upstairs and could only sit in the corner of the first floor. After Empress Dowager Cixi left, the restaurant liberated its mind, boldly reformed, and put up a sign - welcome women to eat upstairs. For a time, women from Xuanhua City and the surrounding areas, supporting their mothers and leading their daughters, came here to dine in an endless stream.
