There are more and more Songhelou restaurants now. You can eat whatever you want. I came here on a weekday night and the store was empty. It was a little unexpected😯 Playing Pingtan and eating Suzhou-style soup noodles🍜, the atmosphere is great🈵️. The dishes were served very quickly. I ordered braised meat + smoked fish as toppings, white soup base, and the plate was clean. The braised duck that I liked before is no longer available. I hope it will appear on the menu in a while.

I went there alone because of its reputation and ordered squirrel fish, ring eel, whitebait soup, and hairy crabs which should be recommended in season. The squirrel fish was really good and I couldn't finish it in the end, so I packed it up for midnight snack. Maybe most soups in Guangdong are sweet, so I'm not used to the salty whitebait soup. The ring eel sauce was very strong, but it was okay. Hairy crabs are indeed suitable to eat in season, but it's not cost-effective to spend more than 400 yuan for one person. The dishes we ordered are enough for two people, so I still recommend you to try!
After all, it is a time-honored Suzhou cuisine restaurant with first-rate dishes. It is said that Emperor Qianlong tasted the ancestor of squirrel mandarin fish when he went to the south of the Yangtze River. Other dishes are also good, the salted goose is moderately salty, the beef is chewy, and when it comes to the season of yellow chrysanthemums, you must try the hairy crabs. Songhelou is a designated restaurant for Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs, which is true. However, the price is also high, and the overall evaluation is: value for money.
