I've been obsessed with traveling to ancient villages since college. Over the years, I've visited over 100 villages across China. I've compiled 10 hidden gems that will stay with me. They're sparsely populated, beautiful, and full of the flavor of life. Save this post and copy it for your next trip! --- 6️⃣ Dali Dong Village, Guizhou: 10 Times More Pristine Than Zhaoxing "A Primitive Dong Village Deep in the Mountains" ✨ Five drum towers reflect the rice paddies, while elderly people sit on covered bridges, weaving and singing. 🔥 In the evening, roast glutinous rice cakes around the stove and listen to tearful Dong folk songs. 💡 Tip: Take a 1-hour taxi from Rongjiang High-Speed Railway Station; the road conditions may be a little rough, but it's worth it. 7️⃣ Pingtian Village, Zhejiang: A Forgotten Slow Lifestyle "A Chance Treasure on the Way to Chenjiapu" ✨ Few Tourists, but Full of Cafes and Bookstores ☕ Recommend "Grandpa's Coffee," with its wooden windows facing a century-old tree. 💡 Tip: Chartering a car is most convenient for combining this with other ancient villages in Songyang. 8️⃣ Xixinan, Anhui: The True Trace of the Wizard of Oz "A Forest Fairytale at the Foot of Huangshan" ✨ Wooden plank bridges, maple and poplar forests, and a clear stream—it's like stepping into a cartoon in the summer. 🍃 Take the kids on a water fishing spree, and enjoy a relaxing picnic under the trees. 💡 Tip: Best time to visit between June and August—remember to bring slippers! 9️⃣ Shishe Village, Zhejiang: The Ultimate in Water Play "A Commercialized Yet Convenient Escape" ✨ A comprehensive selection of B&Bs and restaurants, with a natural swimming pool to cool off in the summer. 🐟 Must-Experience: Enjoy the signature rice sieves by the water and soak your feet in the stream. 💡 Tip: Weekends are crowded, so it's recommended to book the entire river on weekdays. 🔟 Huzhou Nanxun: Free Jiangnan Ancient Town Lights Tour "The sunrise at Baijianlou is breathtakingly beautiful" ✨ Red lanterns gradually light up in the morning mist, and rowboats slice through the water. 📸 Photo Spots: Baijianlou Arch Bridge and Liu's Tihao Red House. 💡 Tip: Stay outside the ancient town to save money; arrive before 7:00 PM for free admission. --- 💡 Ancient Village Travel Tips ✅ Transportation: Most villages require a combination of high-speed rail and bus/chartered vehicles; check the timetable in advance. ✅ Accommodation: Bargaining on-site during the off-season can yield better deals. National Geographic didn't lie to me 😭 5 Secluded Ancient Villages in Songyang (with Camera Spots) Tucked away in a mountain valley, Songyang, Zhejiang, is hailed by National Geographic as "Jiangnan's Last Secret." Escape the crowds, soak in a soothing mountain rain, admire the interwoven terraced fields, and listen to the wind rustle against the yellow mud walls. From over a hundred ancient villages, we've hand-picked five, each with its own unique character, with the best camera spots included. Pick a weekend getaway! 📍Chenjiapu Village 📸Camera Spots: Narrow Road Next to Pioneer Bookstore | Pioneer Bookstore's Second-Floor Window | Terraced Fields Observation Deck Located at 850 meters above sea level and surrounded by mountains on three sides, this was the filming location for "The Golden Years." Its high elevation allows for stunning shots of its layered earthen buildings, earning it the nickname "Village on a Cliff." It's also the most commercialized of the ancient villages, home to the popular Pioneer Bookstore and three sizable B&Bs. · 📍Yangjiatang Village 📸Camera Position: Husband and Wife Trees at the Village Entrance Two century-old camphor trees stand side by side at the village entrance, known as the "Husband and Wife Trees." Their layers of golden walls in the sunset create a scene known as the "Golden Potala Palace." If visiting during holidays or weekends, avoid the crowds in the afternoon; the Tyndall effect is also beautiful in the early morning. · 📍Houshe Village 📸Camera Position: Deer Head Dead Tree | Green Window at the Visitor Center One of Songyang's more secluded villages, the village boasts a cluster of 117 ancient trees with an average age of 184 years. The dead trees resemble deer antlers, and the terraced fields and mud houses in the background create a striking photo opportunity. For those who prefer a less-traditional vibe and avoid commercialization, this is the place to go! · 📍Songzhuang Village 📸Camera Position: Ancient Stone Bridge A stream runs through the village, which is also built around it. The ancient stone bridge over the stream is a National Geographic camera position. Songzhuang Village boasts the largest water flow, the widest stream, and the clearest water among all the ancient villages in Songyang. 📍Pingtian Village Location: On the second floor of Yunshang Pingtian Grandpa's Coffee About ten minutes from Chenjiapu, the village is relatively quiet and commercial. The village offers many exhibitions, calligraphy, and sketching, as well as numerous cafes and a traditional tea-dyeing workshop, perfect for bringing children. Arrive in the morning for a good chance of seeing the sea of clouds. ⚠️TIPS -Transportation: There's no public transportation between villages, so driving is recommended. Contact your B&B to inquire about local services. -Accommodation: B&Bs are available in most villages, but Yangjiatang and Chenjiapu are recommended, as they offer comprehensive amenities. -Sightseeing: It's convenient to visit Yangjiatang and Songzhuang Village together, or Chenjiapu, Pingtian Village, and Houshe Village together. #ScenicRoad #AncientTownsAndVillagesWorthVisiting #ComeHereToSeeTheMostBeautifulSunset
🎋🎋🎋 During the Qingming Festival this year, I took my son to Shangchun Mountain in Songyang County, Lishui with my family. The happy mood of traveling by car with my family was also much calmer when encountering the traffic jam during the holiday. 🏡🏡🏡 Departed in the morning and arrived at the B&B booked in advance in the afternoon. I made an appointment with the housekeeper for dinner and put down my luggage. I couldn't wait to explore this ancient village rated as the last secret place in Jiangnan by National Geographic. 📍: Ping, Sidu Township, Songyang County, Lishui, Zhejiang Tiancun 🍃Day1: During the Qingming Festival, the rain fell heavily, and the ancient village under the misty rain had a unique flavor The old-style house was surrounded by mountains, and I walked with my family on the winding mountain road The bamboo forest nearby, the chirping of birds in the distance, and the undulating tea mountains The dogs and cats in the mountains walked leisurely on their little feet, which was also leisurely and happy 🍘🍘🍘 After a simple walk, it was soon evening time B&B There are many local specialties in the restaurant. The texture of yellow rice cakes is like rice cakes but not rice cakes. I was surprised. The sweet and crispy bamboo shoots after the rain are a perfect match with small mushrooms. The local wild stream fish is even more delicious with unique seasoning. 🍃Day2: It is rare to wake up early during the holidays. I opened the curtains and was instantly enchanted by the scene in front of me. The mountains in the early morning were shrouded in mist like a splash-ink landscape painting. The looming mountains seemed to be in the clouds at this moment. The quaint village outside the window and the tiled houses on the roofs made me, who never like rainy days, feel good and peaceful. 🎑🎑🎑 Although the village is not very big, I enjoyed a lot of time walking around slowly. When I entered the mountains, the children had fun on the stone road, running up and down. In an environment where the pace of life is too fast, we love the slow life like this. When we are tired of running, we go to Grandpa's coffee. Order two cups of coffee and a cup of milk for the child at the store. Then go to the second floor to listen to the rain, watch the mountains, appreciate the paintings, and sing. It is such a comfortable holiday. 🌿🌿🌿 In the afternoon, I also experienced the intangible cultural heritage activity for the first time in the homestay, plant rubbing. After the teacher’s initial and simple explanation, we took the small pot and set off to the mountains to hunt for treasures. For plant rubbing, you need to choose fresh, tender green, and hydrated plants. Colorful flower petals, grass and leaves of various shapes. Back to the rubbing room, wipe the moisture on the surface of the plant and spread it on the cotton cloth. After continuous beating, the color and texture of the plant are printed. Gradually, clearer and clearer patterns appear on the cotton cloth. After taking off the plant and spreading the cotton cloth to dry, rinse it gently again. This is the completion of the unique skills of this intangible cultural heritage. The children who participated in each link are also very successful. Just feel it 🍃Day3: In the morning, I took some photos I liked in the village as a commemoration of this trip Then I wanted to go to the top of the mountain for a drive, but it was foggy When I drove to the top of the mountain, I decided to go down the mountain for safety 🌌🌌🌌 The world I want to see is always big Plans can never keep up with the changes The little regret of this trip that was not completed I believe I will make up for it next time Although it rained during the Qingming Festival Let me stay in this mountain And therefore I feel it more calmly 👋🏻Hi, hello~, in the last year of my thirties I am a mother who wants to travel 100 times with my children alone Here, there may not be a special forces-style travel guide But I still want to record every trip carefully for you Nearby attractions: Chenjiapu Village (Feitianji, Pioneer Bookstore), Yangjiatang Village, Xikeng Village, Songzhuang Village #SpringtimeFunnyFun #TravelAncientStyle #CityHumanitiesNotes #AncientTownsAndVillagesWorthyToVisit #LyingDownBabyWalkTechniques
